Under the general supervision of the Health Services Managers and working under the direction of the sleep laboratory physicians the Polysomnographic Technologist (PGS) provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This includes polysomnography diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and patient care and education. The Polysomnographic Technologist scores and analyzes collected data then prepare summarized reports for interpretation by the sleep laboratory physicians. Must be able to troubleshoot equipment malfunction and software problems. The PGS technologist is actively involved in the education of affiliate learners (i.e. medical students residents PhD. students visiting physicians home care employees and respiratory therapy students). The PSG Technologist participates in a variety of ongoing research protocols.
