JOB TITLE: Paraeducator (Positive Youth Development - Districtwide)
REPORTS TO: Administrative Director of Positive Youth Development
LOCATION: Worcester Public Schools Worcester Massachusetts
POSITION PURPOSE: This District quadrant-based paraeducator position will work as part of the Positive Youth Development (PYD) Team under the direction of the Administrative Director of Positive Youth Development in conjunction with the Director of Special Education the quadrant Executive Directors and the Positive Youth Development BCBA to model best practices and support the work of other paraeducators in the specific quadrant. The paraeducator will work both independently and collaboratively to support the implementation of behavior plans and other recommendations set forth by the quadrant PYD BCBA.
This position is considered a systemwide placement. Employees will be placed by the supervisory department according to need within the district.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (may be included along with other responsibilities):- Responsible for coordinating with the BCBA and other quadrant PYD paraeducators in implementing strategies to support students.
- Responsible for supporting classroom paraeducators to review correct and reinforce lessons with individual and small groups of students in all content areas and other activities and goals as outlined in the students Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
- Responsible for modeling and supporting the preparation inventory operation and maintenance of instructional materials classroom learning aids and equipment.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators in student physical and personal care needs such as assisting in lavatory routines toileting diapering lifting etc.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators in clerical work which may include but it is not limited to recording daily attendance cataloging and filing instructional materials.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators in collaborative planning with the classroom teacher for instructional activities.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators in maintaining open communication. All verbal and written communication is under the supervision of the teacher and/or administrator.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators in maintaining student confidentiality.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators develop a warm and open atmosphere so that all students will have the opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators to serve as the guiding source of information and assisting any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators the implementation of district and school-wide rules policies and procedures and individual student behavior plans.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators to adhere to all testing protocols for students with disabilities including formal and informal assessments.
- Responsible for modeling and supporting classroom paraeducators in performing duties associated within specialty areas. This may include paraeducators who are assigned to special projects including grant programs that require specialized training and duties.
- Responsible for attending all PYD team meetings and quadrant meetings as assigned.
- Responsible for performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- 48 undergraduate college credits or
- Meeting or exceeding the State-determined passing score of 464 on the Paraprofessional (ParaPro) Assessment or the WorkKeys Assessment
- Three (3) years experience as a paraprofessional
- Past performance evaluations of proficient or exemplary
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Successful five (5) years of experience as a paraeducator in an AU/ SAIL classroom.
- Non-violent crisis intervention trained.
- Previous experience in customer services and/or supporting students families and the front office team.
- Ability to speak Albanian Arabic Nepali Portuguese Spanish Vietnamese or an African Language and/or American Sign Language.
WORK YEAR: This is a school-year position including: 180 pupil days 3 days of professional development and 6 additional hours of staff meeting time (assigned by Principal or designated supervisor).
WORK DAY: 6 hours plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch
SALARY: This position is represented by the Educational Association of Worcester Paraeducator Bargaining Unit and the salary is determined by the appropriate step and lane placement on the paraeducator salary schedule.
