Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Psychiatrist diagnoses and treats patients with mental health disorders supervises psychiatric residents and is a consultant for Health Services clinical and counseling staff. The Psychiatrist also assists in mental health care system development within Health Services.

This is a part-time position at 30 hours per week on average.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Psychiatrist:

  • Provide direct psychiatric care to Health Center patients.
  • Assessment diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders in the campus community via in person or telehealth visits.
  • Practice in an integrated primary care practice which includes close collaborative relationships with: primary care physicians nurse practitioners and physician assistants as well as mental health specialists (counselors psychologists and social workers) wellness educators health coaches and massage therapists.
  • Practice culturally competent care in a college population that includes student-patients from various countries and with different gender identities.
  • Provide expert psychiatric consultation.
  • Attend weekly case rounds meeting to provide formal psychiatric consultation to members
    of the Mental Health Referral Staffing meeting.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Counseling the Counseling Triage Coordinator and the entire Medical/Counseling team on emerging psychiatric situations within the clinic and the University at large.

35% of the time the Psychiatrist:

  • Coordinate Health Services-sponsored psychiatric resident rotation (University of Washington School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency Program-Boise Track).
  • Supervise resident patient care in accordance with University of Washington Psychiatry Residency program standards.
  • Ensure resident compliance with Health Services policies procedures and standards of
    care to include proper standard of care and clinic skill documentation risk management
    measures adherence to scheduling and access needs of the patient population.
  • Maintain University of Washington faculty appointment.

5% of the time the Psychiatrist:

  • Mental Health System Development.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with key mental health team members to provide input into
    the design of mental health systems at the Health Services. Such input may include expert
    psychiatric opinion regarding:
    • Triage procedures and protocols
    • Patient access
    • Mental Health screening strategies
    • Training topics and compliance
    • Quality assurance measures related to mental health
    • CARE Team issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Competency and attention to detail in delivering direct patient care.
  • Competence and attention to detail in supervising psychiatric residents and working the residency program.
  • Relationship-building with other team members including counseling medical and administrative staff.
  • Ability to work with electronic medical records and complete documentation in a timely fashion.
MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors degree and 8 years of experience including 3 years post-residency experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Medicine from ACGME accredited MD or DO school.
  • Unencumbered Idaho medical license.
  • ABPN Board Certification or actively working toward obtaining Board Certification; experience supervising psychiatric residents or other trainees desirable.
