Job Description

Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking an experienced laboratory professional to supervise the Auto-Chemistry section in a forensic testing environment focusing on the analysis of biological specimens for drugs of abuse. This role includes oversight of second-shift operations ensuring adherence to protocols and regulatory standards streamlining processes and leading lab staff. Responsibilities also encompass evening lab activities performance tracking inventory control and quality assurance.

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday Second Shift

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties:

  • Manage the auto-chemistry testing of biological samples for toxicological analysis.

  • Supervise evening lab operations and workflows.

  • Leverage technical knowledge to meet turnaround time (TAT) targets and produce high-quality results.

  • Oversee training of new hires and cross-training initiatives ensuring alignment with lab SOPs and compliance requirements.

  • Serve as a problem-solving resource across teams and departments; resolve workflow issues and respond to inquiries.

  • Assign duties create schedules and allocate analytical resources to meet production objectives and respond to changing workloads.

  • Monitor material usage and stock levels execute weekly inventory counts and coordinate ordering to avoid shortages.

  • Maintain current knowledge and documentation for SOPs safety practices regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  • Ensure compliance with CLIA CAP safety environmental and quality standards including hazardous materials and data security protocols.

  • Validate that all laboratory activities meet internal quality benchmarks.

  • Act as the primary IT liaison for laboratory systems supporting software testing and hardware upgrades or installations.

  • Take part in internal and external audits and inspections serving as a technical representative.

  • Conduct and review internal audits to monitor employee performance compliance and operational efficiency.

  • Participate in performance evaluations and maintain team accountability in attendance training and incident reporting.

  • Approve timecards manage PTO requests and coordinate optimal staffing levels to support production needs.

  • Safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) per applicable regulations.

  • Drive process improvements and change implementation to enhance laboratory operations.

  • Support team leads and ensure workflow continuity with sufficient staffing and quality control.

  • Develop justifications for additional staffing as needed.

  • Review daily reports investigate sample discrepancies and support sample tracking.

  • Analyze and act upon monthly quality control trends and corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with QA management on monthly QC reports reagent and maintenance logs for submission to leadership.

  • Work with the Scientific Director to validate testing methodologies and maintain certification standards.

  • Ensure instruments receive timely maintenance and coordinate with service providers when necessary.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in chemical biological or physical sciences required.

  • Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience.

  • Previous leadership or staff training experience preferred.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Hands-on experience with automated chemistry analyzers especially EIA or EMIT systems.

  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with LIMS and lab software.

  • Understanding of CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements is a plus.
