City of Greeley: Work Live and Play in Greeley: Summary:
The City of Greeley is seeking an Equipment Operator II to join the Wastewater Collections division in the Water & Sewer Department. The Equipment Operator II is a key member of the Wastewater Collections team and is responsible for executing maintenance projects that include preventative maintenance responding to emergencies and customer complaints. This position reports to a Crew Supervisor and will serve as a team leader in a variety of jobsite situations.
Experience Knowledge Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid unrestricted Colorado driving license.
- Current Class B CDL required with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire.
- Advanced vocational skills strengthened by at least three (3) to Five (5) years of on-the-job experience in wastewater collection operations and maintenance of sewer lines.
- Two (2) years of experience operating a combination sewer cleaner.
- Must be available and able to commit to being on-call as part of a rotational schedule.
- Must be willing to respond to after-hour emergencies within 45 minutes even if not on call.
OR
- A combination of education experience licensure and certifications that demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the job responsibilities may be considered by the hiring authority.
Preferred
- Colorado State Wastewater Collection System Operator 1 Certification and the willingness to obtain Wastewater Collection System Operator 2 Certification within two (2) years of hire.
- At least one (1) year of experience with wastewater collection operation and maintenance.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a construction related field.
- One (1) year of experience with ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps.
- Previous experience of confined space entry.
- Knowledge of utility locating.
- Flagger Certification.
- Team Leader experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read blueprints for the scope of work.
- Knowledge or familiarity with City geography.
- Knowledge of utility locating.
- General knowledge of construction practices city standards and safety procedures.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of equipment operations including heavy machinery such as operating a backhoe dump truck and excavators.
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook Excel) and Oracle and the ability to learn and experiment with new software and systems.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Leadership and decision-making abilities with a focus on problem-solving in variable situations.
- Capability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining effectiveness.
- Knowledge of or familiarity with CityWorks software and the ability to enter work orders into CityWorks software.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems including pump stations satellite controllers checking and repairing sprinkler heads and underground pipe.

Essential Functions:
- Maintenance and operations of over 389 miles of sanitary sewer mains including: routine maintenance emergency repairs locating mains and services and lift station maintenance and repairs.
- Responds to and reports emergency repairs routine maintenance and customer questions/complaints.
- Assists with sewer outages when needed.
- Works with Project Manager Asset Manager Water & Sewer manager and Crew Supervisors employees as well as other departments to ensure proper operations and procedures are being followed.
- Responds to overtime work and after-hours calls. Participates in a rotational and on-call schedule.
- Prepares routine reports or correspondence and provide data to the asset manager for GIS/ArcMaps integration.
- Handles emergency and after-hours issues including communication and coordination for main breaks.
- Follows proper safety practices procedures and fellow team members i.e. work zone setup traffic control personal protective equipment etc. Make safety suggestions as appropriate.
- Understands and follows City Department and Division Policies & Procedures.
- Answers citizens questions respond to their complaints and notify citizens of impending work i.e. hand out flyers assisting with traffic control during traffic accidents.
- Makes changes in the field due to inclement weather conditions i.e. stop all projects when there are safety concerns for the team or citizens.
- Makes changes in traffic control patterns to ensure the safety of citizens and team members.
- Safely operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment. Equipment used includes combination sewer cleaner TV inspection equipment loaders motor grader backhoes skid steer track hoe tandem and single axel dump trucks semi-tractor trailer sewer cleaning equipment rollers tractor with attachments single/tandem axle dump trucks water trucks semi-tractor with trailer two-way radio computers computerized/automated equipment controls gas detection monitors tripod and harness for confined space entry and radio detection equipment.
- Assists withmandatory and voluntary training the City requires that include proper traffic control defensive driving hazardous material confined space seminars videos workshops and conferences.
- Completes daily work orders and inputs them into the CityWorks work order system completes monthly pothole patching report updates the Division Operational Manual annually.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibility. May serves as a Team Leader in a variety of settings at the job site.
Travel: This position is primarily spent in the field up to 85% of the daily schedule within City limits; may travel to worksites in the Northern Colorado area a few times per year or to attend training conferences.
Work Environment andPhysical Requirements:
- Frequently works in an outdoor environment subject to severe weather conditions extreme heat and cold.
- Frequently works in and around equipment traffic and materials with fumes noise dust dirt heat vibration and flying objects.
- Frequently works in or around equipment in potentially dangerous situations i.e. traffic work zones steep ditch banks manholes and/or confined spaces trenches overhead/underground utilities snow and ice-covered streets etc.
- Responds to overtime work and after-hour calls particularly during emergencies and inclement weather.
- Frequently work with objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Regularly work with objects weighing 30-50 pounds and occasionally work with objects weighing 50-100 pounds in various positions such as pushing pulling lifting in various body positions including above shoulder height.
- Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g. 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
- Manual dexterity enough to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of hand tools power tools motorized equipment and confined space entry.
- Possess the strength and stamina to frequently shovel. Other tasks include laying pipe concrete work patching asphalt rip rapping etc.
- Move equipment and/or materials safely over uneven surfaces and terrain.
- Sit for long periods of time in the equipment (8-12-hour durations).
- Frequently sitting standing walking stooping bending climbing pushing pulling reaching etc.
- Vision and hearing abilities are required to operate a variety of light equipment in traffic and in work zones.
- Dangerous to considerable hazards reflect a frequent exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
- Example(s): Traffic during all maintenance repairs in right-of-way. Being aware of your surroundings during heavy equipment operations. Use caution while working in right-of-way. Utilize flaggers when working in traffic and right-of-way. Working around power lines confined space and working in trenches.
