To promote academic success and provide optimal nursing care to the entire school school nursing services under the supervision of the School Nurse Leader consistent with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines in addition to the local school district assessment and medical care for students and staff in the case of injury or illness as comprehensive school health records and identifies significant health needs. Monitors for appropriate immunization and physical examination requirements in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Maintains appropriate documentation including electronic school health records daily logs medication administration accident/incident report and special needs and implements mandated school screenings according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations. Initiates referrals to parents when required monitors for follow-up and provides accommodations as prescribed by medical and coordinates individual health care plans with health care providers and involved school as the health specialist to develop and implement medically related provisions within students Individual Educational Plan or 504 plan as the ability to communicate effectively with students staff parents administrators and health education in daily the needs of students and staff and teaches health promotion and disease prevention as needed. Provides health education and counseling on an individual basis as needed to students staff and and applies current nursing knowledge in school in ongoing professional development to maintain Massachusetts Registered Nurse License. Maintains certification for school nurse in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary duties in all five school buildings and provide coverage to building based nurses as nursing coverage on field trips and special events as and all other duties as directed by the Funded Position
