The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe high-quality and efficient transportation system throughout the state. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer II to join our dedicated team in Rawlins Wyoming.

This is an exciting full-time opportunity to play a key role in shaping Wyomings transportation infrastructure working on highway projects from concept through completion under the guidance of the Resident Engineer.

  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks related to highway design construction and contract administration
  • Collaborate with the Resident Engineer and multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing plans specifications and contracts for various transportation initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards quality assurance protocols and regulatory requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


  • Issues reviews comments and revises plan sets.
  • Reviews and approves or rejects project submittals and permits.
  • Review and update of forms and documentation procedures in regards to construction activities and pay quantities.
  • Inspects and assures projects/facilities are completed in accordance with plans specifications design criteria and are within budgetary constraints.
  • Compiles and submits engineering recommendations and summaries for the design of a variety of projects/facilities with varying levels of complexity.
  • Conducts extensive research of existing and evolving technologies.
  • Provides technical guidance advice and oversight.
  • Review of Architectural drawings and specifications in regards to building construction. Monitored and inspected contractor operations during building construction to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications.
  • Work in direct contact with contractors and subcontractors on a daily basis in the management of projects under construction.
  • In the same context deal with landowners traveling public and local county state and federal government entities.
  • Maintains and manipulates databases builds network-wide performance models used for system analysis; provides technical support on widely-used department software programs.
  • Surveys buildings and other structures and determines their ability to withstand the forces of nature as well as such other unnatural disasters as fire explosion and warfare;
  • Ensures that all public buildings are constructed or modified to conform to federal and state laws that require access and accommodation for the handicapped.

Qualifications

**Must be able to obtain the following certifications/licenses:
  • Valid Drivers License
  • QC/QA Certification in Soils & Aggregate Asphalt and Concrete


KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of authoritative reference materials in the field of engineering.
  • Knowledge of surveying and surveying instruments and measurement and testing equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of complex algorithms used in mathematical computer models to recognize the theory as the basis of their use.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and processes project scheduling cost estimating procedures and material quantity takeoffs.
  • Knowledge of scientific and/or technical research practices.
  • Knowledge of principles theories concepts and practices of engineering.
  • Knowledge of computers calculators survey equipment and testing equipment is constantly.
  • Knowledge of contemporary practices in road construction contracts.
  • Knowledge of analyzing a situation and based on education experience policies and specifications developing a solution and then implementing the solution.
  • Knowledge of word processors spreadsheets and other computer programs.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications based on sound engineering principles.
  • Skills in engineering calculations and accounting procedures.
  • Skills in interpersonal relations and communications.
  • Skills in oral and written communication.
  • Skills in decision-making and direction of work activities.
  • Skills in making engineering calculations highway construction planning and design.
  • Knowledge of WYDOT policies and procedures and engineering principles related to highway design and construction


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Bachelors Degree (in Engineering)

Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I.

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE)Required.
