Job Summary: The school nurse is responsible for developing implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district. Responsibilities include program management nursing services collaboration health education community health and emergency planning and professional practice.
Performance Responsibilities:
As a nurse registered through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) the school nurse must adhere to the Nurse Practice Act pertinent regulations governing nursing practice and the standards of care established by the professional organizations such as the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).
The School Nurse demonstrates current knowledge and executes tasks in the following areas:
Qualifications:
Evaluated by: The school nurse reports to the Department Head for Nursing and the school principal.
Work Year: In accordance with the Unit A contract and as scheduled by the School Committee Elementary & Preschool Nurses work 187 days and Middle and High School nurses work 189 days.
Salary/Benefits: Salary and benefits are in accordance with the terms of the Wellesley Educators Association Unit A contract.

The employee is required to have the cognitive ability and focus to manage multiple detailed tasks at once with frequent interruptions.
