JOB DESCRIPTION: High School Assistant Cheerleading Sponsor

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The High School Assistant Cheerleading Sponsor is responsible for providing instruction and coaching to students in competitive cheerleading techniques as a means of developing cheerleading skills and contributing to all student athlete success in the classroom. The Assistant Cheerleading Sponsor is further responsible for encouraging sportsmanlike conduct amongst all students and staff.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The High School Assistant Cheerleading Sponsor:

  1. Uses a variety of coaching techniques and methods along with media to meet the needs of student athletes and the cheerleading program as a means of improving the abilities of student athletes in the assigned sport.
  2. Assists in the management and supervision of all high school cheerleading activities contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork discipline respect and good sportsmanship.
  3. Works with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student athletes.
  4. Helps to establish performance criteria for competition and evaluates student athletic abilities on an initial and regular basis.
  5. Ensures all necessary precautions and safeguards are in place to protect student athletes equipment materials and facilities.
  6. Monitors and enforces student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  7. Works with the High School Athletic Director and other coaches to schedule competitions and coordinate appropriate arrangements.
  8. Coaches and instructs cheerleaders individually or in groups regarding the rules regulations equipment and techniques of the sport.
  9. Accompanies and supervises student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports when traveling to compete.
  10. Instructs and advises student athletes on NCAA regulations specific to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting purposes.
  11. Helps to maintain a regular system of files containing all material relevant to the cheerleading program including eligibility forms transfer forms grade reports and ensures that all ACSD#1 District policies are followed.
  12. Assists in the enforcement of student discipline during athletic contests practice sessions and while on trips of school property in accordance with ACSD#1 policies and the student handbook.
  13. Encourages sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  14. Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals teachers and Athletic Director.
  15. Assists in the maintenance of an inventory of all fixed assets of the cheerleading program.
  16. Oversees process of cleaning repairing and storing all program athletic equipment.
  17. Annually establishes and meets performance goals.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to use effective communication skills; robust knowledge of the sport of cheerleading including strategy rules and coaching; ability to use time effectively; good organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors); knowledge of physiological psychological emotional and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents; ability to lead meetings; and ability to help coaches achieve consensus.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory: Candidate must hold or be eligible to hold a NFHS Cheer & Dance endorsement or comparable endorsement.

Preferred: 1 years of experience as a high school assistant cheerleading sponsor.

Valid Wyoming teaching certification

Bachelors degree in a related field

- Mental Requirements: read write understand interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy compare compile and coordinate information and records.

- Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: Requires travel to multiple sites.

EVALUATION

- Evaluation of this position shall be by the High School Athletic Director/Principal.
