Job Description

Position Summary
Supervision and Development of Resident Assistants and Desk staff Recruit select train and supervise Resident Assistants providing clear expectations and ongoing support for their responsibilities including intentional one-on-one interactions with residents community development programming on-call coverage policy enforcement and performance management. Conduct regularly-scheduled one-to-one and team meetings and continued development in conjunction with University priorities and directives. Guide staff to create programs and one-to-one interactions that transform lives and inspire transformation in direct support of the University and Department mission. Set clear expectations for student staff concerning personal behavior and confidentiality of student information regarding psychological medical academic and personal matters. Assist in developing department policies and procedures and with coordination of operations and processes. Community Development and Area Presence Maintain an accessible and welcoming office and community environment where the RD is seen as a resource advisor and champion for student well-being and success. Promote the goals and the objectives of the residential community in conjunction with University initiatives. Demonstrate respect for individual students and assist them in their collegiate journey through intentional connection to resources. Maintain a consistent presence in both the first-year residential community and a minimum of two days per week providing coverage in the main Office of Residence Life. Actively use provided meal plan to build and foster relationships with staff and students. Student Accountability Crisis Response Counseling and On-Call/On-Duty Rotation Share responsibility in a year-round professional Residence Life on-call rotation including evenings weekends and holiday coverage. Communicate and model University expectations for community behavior while establishing clear guidelines for policy enforcement and ensuring proper documentation of incidents. Conduct disciplinary meetings in a seamless manner through case creation accountability meeting sanctioning and follow-up on an as needed basis. Respond appropriately and professionally to parents/guardians within FERPA guidelines in a timely manner. Collaborate closely with Police and Safety to provide appropriate support during crisis and non-crisis situations. This may include responding to mental health facilities lockouts assisting with after-hours student arrivals and responding to dispatch calls for support within residential buildings. Planning Implementation and Evaluation of Programming Guide student staff in the planning implementation and evaluation of programs while also actively contributing to community engagement by developing and facilitating programming and small group initiatives as a full-time professional team member. Administer programming budget for designated area through good stewardship and fiscally responsible practices. Development and Maintenance of a Clean Safe and Functional Living Environment for Residents Conduct on-going assessments of the physical condition of buildings in designated area including individual rooms common areas and immediate surrounding grounds. Assist with identification of area-improvement projects. Coordinate on-site supervision for area fire drills and health and safety inspections of individual rooms. Supervise dissemination completion retrieval and submission of Room Condition Forms and other assignments paperwork. Supervise and manage area move-in closing damage billing and damage billing appeals. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS : Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible. Consideration will be given on a case by case basis and reassignment of marginal duties will be made when appropriate. This job description shall include but is not necessarily limited to the above duties. The RD may temporarily perform other duties assigned to ensure departmental functionality. SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL : Supervise seven Resident Assistants and one Head Resident Assistant. CONTACT WITH OTHERS : Internal: Has regular contact with students the Dean for Student Development and Engagement Physical Plant Campus Police and Safety Faculty and Student Development departments. External: Has contact with family members community organizations and/or surrounding neighbors of the University.

Physical Demands
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a University housing environment which may include extended periods of walking office work lifting up to 25 pounds and extended work days. WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is performed in a busy office and University housing environment. Work involves a rotating 24/7 on-call duty schedule with occasional late night/early morning and weekend responsibilities. RDs mainly work from their assigned first-year residence hall office but are required to provide a minimum of two days of coverage in the main office each week.

Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : Education: Bachelors degree is required. Licenses and Certifications: A current valid drivers license is required. University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the Universitys Mission.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Masters degree in student personnel higher education counseling or a related area. Also desirable: experience in staff supervision administration of residence hall operations and facilitating student development programming activities. Previous experience with living and learning communities first-year experience programs international and diverse populations is preferred. Occasional evening and weekend hours are to be expected as a part of the on-call rotation. Must have excellent administrative oral and written communication skills; human relation mediation and training skills; and the ability to handle confrontational individuals or environments.
