The HIM Manager oversees the development implementation and maintenance of health information processes ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This role includes supervising coding operations managing reimbursement workflows ensuring accurate medical documentation and overseeing privacy-related procedures. The ideal candidate has strong leadership analytical and compliance expertise in health information management.
Key Responsibilities:
HIM Leadership & Compliance
- Oversee coding reimbursement processes release of information birth and tumor registry management and documentation compliance
- Ensure coding accuracy billing compliance and proper documentation in adherence to federal state and payer-specific regulations
- Lead chart completion processes for accuracy completeness and timely access to patient records
- Monitor the release of medical information in compliance with HIPAA state regulations and medical center policies
- Oversee patient advocacy related to release of information and portal assistance
Supervision & Operational Management
- Supervise daily coding operations including workload management staffing training performance evaluations and quality monitoring
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategies to optimize HIM operations and ensure compliance
- Collaborate with clinical revenue cycle and compliance teams to improve coding accuracy documentation practices and reimbursement efficiency
- Conduct trend analyses to identify coding variations case-mix index shifts and revenue impacts
Education & Compliance Oversight
- Design and implement educational and training programs for staff physicians and ancillary departments on coding documentation and compliance requirements
- Lead coding audit programs monitoring coding accuracy regulatory adherence and documentation adequacy
- Develop corrective action plans and training to address coding-related denials and compliance risks
- Work closely with Information Services to ensure data integrity and accurate documentation practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or related field
- Masters degree in Business Administration or Health Administration preferred
- At least 3 years of hospital and professional coding experience (inpatient & outpatient)
- Strong expertise in coding principles federal/state healthcare regulations and payer-specific reimbursement policies
- Leadership experience in health information operations compliance and team management
- Proficiency in HIM software EHR systems and medical documentation tools
- Strong analytical communication and organizational skills
