Civil/Structural Engineer-in-Training

The Civil / Structural Engineer-in-Training is responsible for applying technical knowledge of Civil / Structural Engineering principles and practices to select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to assignments. The position assists more senior engineers in carrying out technical tasks for design and production of steel skids pipe rack modules foundations etc. Introduction to grading engineering and design will form part of the job description and appropriate guidance instruction and mentoring by Senior Civil / Structural Engineer(s) will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply appropriate theoretical and practical engineering principles to contribute to the overall success of Propaks operations through interaction with cross-functional engineering teams
• Ensure designs and installations comply with codes standards and client specifications
• Perform structural design of modular steel packages pipe racks and pipe supports
• Design concrete and steel foundations for structures compressor packages and tanks
• Perform grading and drainage engineering including ditch culvert and pond sizing
• Size secondary containment for tank farms
• Analyze soil reports for foundation selection
• Specify and design pipe supports
• Perform lifting analysis
• Participate in 3D model reviews
• Liaise with other disciplines
• Coordinate with cross-functional engineering discipline teams including Process Mechanical Drafting and Project Engineering
• Assist with resolving technical issues in the shop or in the field
• Prepare documents and reports

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university
• Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
• Experience within an EPC and EPCM work environment is an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical engineering principles to solve problems
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Flexible and able to meet objectives while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and strict deadlines
• Excellent reading research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and utilize complex information
• Understanding of complex verbal and written instructions
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational time management and planning skills
• Ability to monitor the quality of own work and create systems for checking accuracy

Experience

• Direct work experience is not required however previous experience in oil and gas related facilities is considered an asset
• Demonstrated competency in applying principles of mechanical engineering to specifications and design of process equipment is considered an asset
• Experience working with ANSYS engineering software is considered an asset

Other

• Knowledge of FEA vibration analysis and impact/shock related problems
• Knowledge of oil and gas or petrochemical facilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Work Environment

Specific Work Conditions

• Work is performed in an office setting with usual weekday office hours

• Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines

• Requires the ability to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiries

• Coping with frequent interruption and changing priorities

• Required to attend meetings at other buildings

• May involve occasional travel to meet vendors suppliers and customers or visit project site visits often with little notice

Physical Requirements

• Requires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer reading manuals etc.
• Manual dexterity for data input paperwork and use of standard office equipment
• Climbing kneeling crouching and crawling when examining equipment

• Company-standard PPE must be worn when entering fabrication shops yards and project sites.

• Walking on uneven ground is to be expected in yards and at project sites
