Job Description

Saint Stephens College invites applications from experienced and dedicated Learning Assistants to work in our Creative Arts department.

About the Role

Learning Assistants at Saint Stephens College work cooperatively with Teachers under their guidance to deliver a high-quality educational program from planning implementation through to assessment. Their main focus is to continuously seek to maximise the learning outcomes for students through assisting the classroom teacher.

Learning Assistants work mostly in classroom settings but they also play a key role supporting students at events during College celebrations competitions excursions and during everyday activities including morning tea and lunch.

This role works within the Creative Arts Department providing technical assistance in the overall operation of the Creative Arts department. Preparing practical equipment and providing practical and technical support for the Film TV and New Media Visual Art and Design classes including printing and laser cutting.

Position details

  • Permanent part-time term time position commencing Term 3 (14 July 2025)
  • 32.9 hours per fortnight
  • Hours of work are from 8am to 3.05pm 5 days per fortnight (the work schedule will be negotiated with the preferred candidate)

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Complete tasks as specified by specialist teachers and may involve: collection of materials from suppliers colour printing signage laminating and scanning/photocopying for examinations and classroom resources cleaning & maintenance of classrooms including: Visual Art Design and FTV Rooms.
  • Preparing practical equipment and providing practical and technical support for the Film Visual Art and Graphics classes including printing and laser cutting.
  • Dismantling and cleaning equipment.
  • Organisation of storerooms/classrooms ensuring materials and equipment are easily accessible and well-stocked.
  • Support department functions (art shows awards and expos etc.)

  • Demonstrate a willingness to work positively within a team as well as having the ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate and practice effective written verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Excellent personal organisation planning and time management skills including the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Genuine commitment to the ideals of independent schools including the preparedness to attend extracurricular activities as appropriate to the role
  • Commitment to work within and support the Christian ethos mission and values of the College
  • Demonstrate passion energy enthusiasm and commitment towards the role and the College
  • Ability to work harmoniously to achieve an organisation-wide vision as set by the College leadership and Board

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in School Based Education Support or other relevant Education Support qualification.
  • Relevant experience knowledge and skills in assisting teachers with planning implementing and assessing classroom activities
  • Demonstrated experience working with junior or high school aged students providing learning support or special needs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and other school-based systems
  • Skilled in the preparation of teaching aids and resources
  • Willingness to learn safe work practices and procedures in operating the kiln and laser cutter

Mandatory Clearances/Certifications

  • Blue Card in accordance with No Card No Start law as per the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000

Other

All employees of Saint Stephens College are required to:

  • Carry out other duties as required by the Principal
  • Demonstrate follow and support the policies and procedures of the College
  • Maintain a degree of flexibility in working hours from time to time as required for the position
  • Accept that the College reserves the right to modify the position to meet its operating needs
  • Undertake other reasonable and relevant duties within skills knowledge and capabilities and as directed by the Principal or their representative
  • Comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 codes of practice and other safety guidance material.
