Job Description

Starting pay rate: $74315 ( depending on education)

Villa Maria School is a 12 monthprogram thatprovides educational and clinical services for children with significant emotional behavioral and learning offer multiple programs serving students from kindergarten through 8thgrade in small classrooms (up to nine students) who are experiencing emotional behavioral and learning challenges such that their local school system refers them to VMS for placement.

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking an Assistant Principal who helps in the administration and supervision of 12-month elementary and middle school programs and staff at Villa Maria School a Level V educational setting serving children with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities.

The work schedule is: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm

Our dedicated classroom staff support teams and clinicians offer a host of services in a team environment where we strive to meet each childs unique needs. Together with parents we help our children become better learners understand their feelings and change their behaviors.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Observes evaluates and provides feedback to assigned staff to promote an effective educational environment and compliance with the Agency state and federal educational mandates.
  • Develops coverage schedules for programs and reviews schedules daily assigning staff as necessary to ensure adequate coverage for all classes. Oversees the daily administration of the school in the absence of the Principal.
  • Enforces timely completion and reviews all Incident Reports to ensure adequate documentation of crisis situations. Follows up as necessary with teachers and submits final reports to Risk Management.
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings to provide information on students educational and social progress in the school setting and provide input on behavioral assessments and treatment plans.
  • Conducts staff and school-related meetings committees and workshops to communicate programs policies protocols and activities.
  • Represents Villa Maria School in meetings with parents residential staff counselors and agencies to discuss individual students and/or school programs and policies. Assists in the coordination of related services to students and their families.
  • Oversees the Individual Educational Plans of students including writing or working with teachers to write IEPs reviewing progress notes and conducting meetings with teachers parents and residential staff to discuss student progress and develop future plans and strategies to meet student needs.
  • Accountable for managing and directing work of others including recruiting teaching staff and paraprofessional staff (teaching assistants classroom staff) onboarding new staff and conducting performance reviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters Degree in Special Education or related field certification in Special Education by the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Five years experience in an educational setting with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents including experience in administration and supervision.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Certification in Special Education by the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and CARE offered after hire.

  • Requires ability to use the CARE (Children and Residential Experiences) model to influence and guide all interactions and philosophy of support for children families and colleagues.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate activities as appropriate.
  • Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions. Basic Windows PC web browsing (i.e. Chrome Internet Explorer etc.) and Microsoft Outlook skills required. Other Microsoft Office application knowledge such as Word Excel PowerPoint Skype and OneDrive desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50# in all directions.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.
  • Requires physical ability to intervene and restrain children in crisis situations including the ability to run lift and transport children to another location.
  • Requires the physical ability to react to physically demanding situations to include application of safety holds for children of various ages. Includes the ability to run lift bend drop to knees quickly and utilize full range of motion of hands arms shoulders knees and legs for an extended period of time.
  • Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and to observe and communicate with others.
  • Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience and a valid drivers license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede drivers ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
