School Counsellor
Full Time Temporary
The School Counsellor will support the social and emotional learning of all students. Duties include providing personal and academic counselling services at the school level supporting the Learning Support Team liaising with outside agencies and service providers and working directly with students parents school and district staff including teachers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with parents teaching staff community agencies and the medical community.
- Promoting personal and social development appropriate to childrens developmental stage.
- Participating on various committees focused on community division and school initiatives.
- Crisis intervention at family and school level.
- Collaborate with teachers and educational assistants to support programming needs of students.
- Working cooperatively with psychologists teachers health therapists medical agencies and other outside agencies to coordinate the delivery of required assessments and programming to ensure successful integration of students within the school.
- Research and remain current with best practices within the area of counselling and social/emotional learning.
- Establishment and implementation of a school guidance and counselling program that provides service along a continuum of support to best meet the needs of all learners in the school.
- Collaboration in the development of Functional Behavioural Assessment for students.
- Collaborating with administration on transition planning.
- Being a member of the schools student support leadership team.
- Leading school based health and well-being initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience: - Completion of a professional graduate level program related to school or counselling psychology including a practicum at the post Bachelors Degree. A Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology is preferred.
- A Bachelor of Education degree would be an asset.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- Effectively work with a team of teachers educational assistants service providers and outside agencies.
- Understand and demonstrate the district mission and vision of whole child educational and instructional excellence.
- Critical Incident and VTRA training would be an asset.
- Experience with a variety of level B and C assessment instruments.
- Experience with culturally appropriate approaches to mental health and wellness.
