Position Summary
The English Department seeks a graduate student to work in the role of NeMLA Graduate Assistant on projects related to the Northeast Modern Language Association ( NeMLA ) a professional academic association focused on literatures languages and the interdisciplinary humanities. The NeMLA Graduate Assistant would support NeMLAs executive director and associate executive director on a variety of administrative work. Duties may include but are not limited to: Preparing content for the newsletter (including researching writing editing and coordinating with contributors) General office work (e.g. filing printing scanning campus deliveries organization inventory) Assisting with the annual convention (preparation logistics set-up/breakdown operations and possibly coordinating other staffers) Researching and gathering information to support executive decision-making (e.g. tracking and organizing documents and information research new vendors or products etc.) General communication between the association and its members and officers or board of directors Preparing documents Other special projects and duties as assigned. As a student representative of both NeMLA and Gannon University the utmost professionalism and integrity is expected at all times. This position will help to develop the following NACE career readiness competencies: Career & Self Development: Proactively develop oneself and ones career through continual personal and professional learning awareness of ones strengths and weaknesses navigation of career opportunities and networking to build relationships within and without ones organization. Communication: Clearly and effectively exchange information ideas facts and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization. Graduate Assistant will be working in collaboration with supervising faculty member Dr. Derek DiMatteo associate executive director of NeMLA and assistant professor of English at Gannon.
Physical Demands
be able to bend lift push and pull to assist with moving boxes and supplies in various areas throughout the Palumbo Academic Center. be asked to lift up to 30-50 pounds (e.g. boxed or bagged items). be asked to transport items across campus or to load items into a vehicle (e.g. using a dolly or hand truck). be asked to travel to convention location in another city and to assist in set-up and breakdown of posters projectors tables etc.
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a Gannon University graduate student in good standing with their department with a GPA above 3.2 and will have most or all of the following skills experiences or abilities: Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written). Highly organized and disciplined with strong time-management. Attentive to details. Self-directed independent and able to follow instructions unsupervised. Work collaboratively with faculty staff and external professionals. Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook Word PowerPoint Excel and OneDrive). Reliable honest; must be in good academic standing with no prior academic integrity violations; required to adhere to strict confidentiality policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Would be great if you also had one or more of these skills: Proficiency with Adobe creative suite (especially InDesign Acrobat Photoshop and Illustrator). HTML & CSS and WordPress or other CMS backend administration. Social Media management experience. Intermediate or advanced proficiency in non-English languages (Portuguese French Spanish German Italian Hindi).
