In Puerto Rico we are focused on improving reading proficiency for students in the early grades and revitalizing the island by making strategic investments in arts culture and education. Our work in Washington D.C. centers on strengthening effective family engagement in schools and school systems across the country through trainings resources and school-based partnerships.

What You Do

The Content Specialist is based in our Washington DC office and reports to the Senior Managing Director Communications and External Affairs. You are responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive content strategy to advance the Foundations brand thought leadership in family engagement and sustainability of our work. You are a strategic thinker and Flamboyans lead writer for our family engagement work based in DC growing Flamboyans profile through multi-platform content creation and expanding engagement among our stakeholder audiences. You collect and tell compelling stories of the Foundations work and equity-driving impact. Youre comfortable with proactively bringing ideas and pitches to the table and then figuring out how to make them happen. You partner with your External Affairs teammatesin both DC and Puerto Ricoand colleagues across the organization to ensure our content is strong current on message and on brand.

Responsibilities

Content Strategy and Development

  • Lead the development and execution of content strategies to support thought leadership branding and audience growth.
  • Oversee content planning creation distribution and performance analysis across owned media channels including e-newsletters websites blogs podcasts and video.
  • Tell compelling stories to advance Flamboyans brand and thought leadership.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice and tone across all media.
  • Partner across the External Affairs team to develop creative strategies for campaigns and initiatives.
  • Partner with the communications team in Puerto Rico to align story opportunities and amplify them on Flamboyans assets considering how to best account for contextual factors.

Content Management and Maintenance

  • Collaborate with Flamboyans DC Program team to collect stakeholder stories and maintain a story bank.
  • Conduct stakeholder research to inform content strategies and create compelling content tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Develop and implement content governance policies to ensure content remains fresh and relevant.
  • Curate content so knowledge objects are presented in appropriate context.
  • Ensure communications are inclusive accessible and aligned with organizations values.
  • Analyze feedback and engagement metrics to continuously improve content effectiveness.

Organizational Stewardship

  • Serve as an ambassador for Flamboyans organizational brand generally and our family engagement work specifically locally and nationally
  • Model and foster the Flamboyan core values of People Impact Catalytic Action and Equity
  • Responsibly steward financial resources
  • Continuously deepen your expertise and readiness to be an equity-centered team member and contributor in our Family Engagement efforts self-awareness inclusivity in your work and serve as an agent of change for Flamboyan.
  • Support Senior Managing Director as needed on tasks and special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Communications or related field
  • At least five years of professional experience in social-impact content strategy and communications
  • Proven storytelling ability with a knack for distilling complex concepts in a concise and engaging manner
  • Excellent writing editing and proofreading skills in formats including blogs full-length articles and audio and video scripts
  • Proven experience writing an initiative-based communications plan (i.e. for a specific event or campaign)
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and produce work on a quick timeline
  • Willingness to accept guidance and give and receive open and honest feedback
  • Strong propensity to be a self-starter and natural problem solver
  • Project management and teamwork skills

Preferred

  • Experience in education a plus
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish a plus

Work Location

Flamboyan Foundation is an in-person workplace. All staff are expected to work out of its DC office located at 1730 Massachusetts Ave NW Washington DC We are currently in the office four days per week (M T Th Fr) with one day of telework (W).

This position reports to the Senior Managing Director Communications and External Affairs. The starting salary for this position is $82790 .
