Heat networks are a low carbon alternative to gas boilers providing both heating and hot water. They work by distributing hot water around a town via pipes under the ground.

Hemiko is developing the Worthing Heat Network working in partnership with Worthing Borough Council. The Worthing Heat Network will initially supply low carbon heat to the hospital and council buildings in the town. Over time we will expand the heat network to serve other non-domestic buildings in Worthing. Eventually we expect to be able to connect domestic customers too.

The first phase of the Worthing Heat Network is currently under construction. Construction involves digging trenches to lay pipe work under the ground.

Currently just 3% of the UKs heat is supplied by heat networks. By 2050 this will need to reach at least 20% in order for us to meet net zero.
