Job Description

Position Title:

Theatre Assistant Teaching Professor

Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Iowa State Universitys Department of Music and Theatre seeks a dynamic and experienced Theatre instructor/director for three-year appointment (with opportunity for renewal) beginning 8/16/25. The successful candidate will direct one theatre production per academic year mentor performing arts majors and teach theatre/performing arts courses such as introductory and advanced acting directing script analysis voice performance musical theatre etc. depending on candidate expertise and department need.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct one theatre production (or equivalent) per academic year

  • Teach 2-4 theatre/performing arts courses per semester

  • Serve as a Faculty Mentor for performing arts majors

  • Assist with recruiting prospective students

This part-time term faculty position is 75% full-time equivalent (FTE) with an initial 3-year term ending 5/15/2028.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in theatre or related field

  • Experiencing teaching theatre

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching performance courses

  • Experience teaching directing

  • Experience as a theatre director

  • Experience teaching voice or musical theatre

  • Experience teaching university theatre

  • Demonstrated excellence and achievement as a theatre professional
