A Day in the Life Consists of:
As a Custodial Aide with the City of San Bernardino your day will focus on learning and performing a variety of custodial tasks to help maintain clean safe and welcoming City facilities. Under direct supervision youll support the upkeep of public buildings while gaining hands-on experience and training in custodial operations. Your day may include:
Cleaning offices restrooms windows floors and public areas using proper methods and materials.
Emptying trash containers and replenishing restroom supplies.
Assisting with moving and arranging furniture and equipment for meetings or special events.
Cleaning exterior areas around buildings such as picking up litter and maintaining entryways.
Observing and following safety regulations and reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions.
Using and learning to maintain custodial equipment such as floor buffers and vacuum cleaners.
Preparing rooms for meetings and ensuring common areas are presentable and functional.
Participating in on-the-job training to understand custodial techniques equipment use and cleaning schedules.
Supporting department goals by maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude throughout the day.
Sweeping mopping dusting and polishing furniture.
Demonstrate the ability to follow oral and written job related instruction; willingness to perform heavy manual labor; good physical condition.
Knowledge of:
Methods materials and equipment used in custodial work.
Ability to:
Learn operate and maintain mechanical and power custodial equipment such as floor buffers and vacuum cleaners;
Learn cleaning operations required in custodial work;
Adhere to schedules in accomplishing assigned tasks;
Report malfunctions in equipment and unsafe condition of buildings;
Observe safety rules and regulations;
Accomplish routine custodial duties independently;
See in the normal visual range with or without correction;
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction;
Transport materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds;
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
