Job Description
What will you be doing
ALTEN is seeking an experienced BIW Design Engineer to support a leading OEM project focused on vehicle body structure development metallic parts management and cost reduction. This is a unique opportunity to work on key cost optimisation initiatives across multiple vehicle platforms for a major European automotive manufacturer
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead or support design activities for metallic BIW components within the vehicle architecture
- Collaborate closely with purchasing manufacturing and cost engineering teams to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Analyse existing designs and propose new or modified solutions to reduce cost weight and material usage without compromising performance or quality
- Contribute to the evaluation of design proposals against BOM structures and cost tracking systems
- Ensure project delivery milestones are met within defined timelines and technical constraints
- Assist in metallic parts management including issue resolution and design approvals
Who are we looking for
- Proven track record in cost reduction or cost evaluation within a design or project engineering environment
- Familiarity with European automotive design processes ideally across different plant or regional setups
- Comfortable working across teams and disciplines including purchasing manufacturing and cost control
- Ability to manage and contribute to both existing and new design idea pipelines to support vehicle development

Qualifications :
Experience skills and qualifications required:
- Knowledge of tools such as Siemens NX CDMS QBase (or Cubase) and G2B is a plus
- Hands-on experience with design of metallic structural parts
- A degree in engineering or relevant field
- Exposure to automotive BOM and issue tracking systems
- Understanding of materials weight management and design-to-cost principles
