Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in nuclear other engineering or related field from an accredited institution. Experience functioning as a project lead project manager or lead role commensurate with level with specific experience with capital asset projects.
  • EX5: Bachelors and 14 years of experience. Masters and 8 years of experience. PhD and 6 years
    of experience.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated critical thinking and collaboration along with budget planning and prioritization abilities. Candidate will display a strict attention to detail and an eye for continuous improvement.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance which requires US Citizenship.
  • Industry engineering and operations experience desired.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop kneel bend and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type handle materials manipulate tools and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.   • The pay range for this position is Level 5 ($130980 - $268680). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Operations Program Manager to work on the National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the Director of NRIC.

The Senior Operations Manager directs and manages the daily activities of NRICs operations responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functioning of NRIC ensuring operational efficiency and improving existing systems. This role also involves improving productivity and implementing strategic initiatives. The role encompasses working across the Idaho National Laboratory other National Labs and Industrial partnerships. The individual will support improved organizational efficiency in technical administrative programmatic and financial operations to navigate the Idaho National Laboratory and the Department of Energy to accelerate the deployment of advanced nuclear technology. The individual will actively and accurately manage an ongoing system of collecting organizational metrics and derive insights from the data they have collected to recommend organizational improvements. The position will navigate the complex environment between the interface with the program managers and the operations staff. The individual will report on the data they collect to all interested parties and create customized analyses and reports on demand. They work with communications teams to build engaging and effective marketing campaigns and function as the customer service representative as needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops and implements strategic plans to optimize operational efficiency and align with overall business goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations ensuring that processes are followed standards are met and issues are addressed promptly.
  • Identify areas for improvement in existing systems and implement changes to enhance efficiency productivity and quality.
  • May handle stakeholder communications build relationships with stakeholders and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments stakeholders and external partners to achieve operational goals.
  • Identifies areas for improvement in existing systems and implements changes to enhance efficiency productivity and quality.
  • Identifies and manages operational risks developing contingency plans to mitigate potential issues.
  • Prepare cost estimates and operating and maintenance budgets plan track and manage the funds budgets costs and performance of the major projects in the NRIC portfolio.
  • Support review sessions with project teams to discuss cost schedule and technical performance.
  • Provide program/project management and execution plans.
  • Provide outyear planning to take strategic vision to executable scopes of work and funding requirements.
  • Provide planning and periodic reporting to include DOEs Program Information Collection System that is provided to DOE.
  • Collaborate with and guide processes for system design for major programs.
  • Build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to ensure priorities and programs are aligned with short- and long-term business objectives.
  • Clarify and drive project commitments as well as establish and maintain clear chains of accountability and communication by facilitating meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Use continuous improvement methods to identify ways to optimize program effectiveness efficiency and quality.
  • Provide System Engineering management responsibilities for projects engaged in design phase.
  • Participate in the development bid and award and negotiation of supplier contracts and contract changes.
  • Develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers.
