Job Description
Nichols School is seeking a dynamic and passionate part-time Upper School Latin Teacher who will be responsible for teaching Latin courses across a range of proficiency levels. The ideal candidate is a dedicated educator who brings a deep knowledge of the Latin language and classical literature along with the ability to inspire upper school students through engaging rigorous instruction.
The position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced student-centered environment; demonstrates strong communication and classroom management skills; and values collaboration with colleagues. The candidate should be comfortable differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and maintaining open communication with students and families.
DUTIES:
- Teach 2-3 Upper School Latin classes ranging from introductory to advanced levels
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes linguistic and cultural engagement
- Design lessons that develop students reading writing and translation skills in Latin
- Inspire student interest in classical civilizations and their relevance today
- Communicate effectively with students families and school staff
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to enhance the student experience
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in Latin and strong knowledge of classical literature and culture
- Bachelors degree in Classics Education or a related field (required); Masters degree preferred
- Experience teaching high school Latin (preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal and classroom management skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction for a range of learners
- Willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school
- Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to also teach Spanish or English
