Maine Correctional Center is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Assistant Classification Officer in Windham ME. This is paraprofessional work involving the resident classification system for a correctional institution. Work is performed under general supervision.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work includes interviewing incoming residents.
  • Developing computerized case histories and other special reports.
  • Overseeing or taking and recording resident identification data.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:(Entry level knowledges skills and/or abilities may be acquired throughBUTARENOTLIMITEDTOthe following coursework/training and/or experience).

  • Two (2)years experiencein a correctional detention law enforcement medical or institutional setting or closely related field which provided a knowledge of computerized management information system operations and requirements as it relates to managing client and/or patient information.

REPRESENTATIVETASKS:(A position may not be assigned all the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).

  • Interview incoming residents takes fingerprints and gathers identification data in order to obtain required resident information and prepare necessary records.
  • Input data into the corrections master records system to be used in the development of case histories for the Classification Committee Probation and Parole Division other correctional facilities and law enforcement agencies in order to determine housing and custody levels and programs and provide required information.
  • Compile calculate and record extra good time good time and lost time to adjust a residents release date.
  • Analyze and interpret court documents prior to initiating resident files to verify correctness and extract required information.
  • Sit as a member of the Classification Committee when requested or in the absence of the Classification Officer.
  • Prepare and distribute bi-monthly resident release sheets to all correctional institutions housing residents under the jurisdiction of parent institution.
  • Correspond directly with courts district attorneys and other judicial entities to determine the status of warrants or detainers and exchange information.
  • Compile data on residents for statistical reports.

Knowledge Of:

  • Computerized record system development maintenance and security.
  • Advanced interviewing techniques.
  • Applicable portions of Maine Criminal Code and Laws.
  • The correctional classification system.

Ability To:

  • Use and update data in a computerized record system.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Write clearly and effectively.
  • Interpret legal documents.
  • Compile and maintain social and criminal case histories and criminal identification data.
  • Work under stressful conditions.
