Description

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Western New England University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology/Biopharmaceutical Technology in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences. The position is a 12-month tenure-track appointment that offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing graduate program consisting of four M.S. degrees: Biopharmaceutical Technology Medical Sciences Pharmacogenomics and Pharmaceutical Sciences 2 undergraduate programs as well as an integrated and innovative learner-centered in person and distance PharmD program.

The successful candidate will be able to teach broadly within the area of Biopharmaceutical Technology Bioprocessing and Pharmaceutical Sciences with the opportunity to help develop our recently launched M.S. program in Biopharmaceutical Technology. Applicants with experience in laboratory experience are especially encouraged to apply.

A doctorate in a pharmaceutical science engineering or related fields) with expertise in biopharmaceutical development or pharmaceutical engineering is required. Prior experience as a faculty member in higher education and/or a post-doctoral fellowship is desirable. The successful candidate will also be expected to pursue research and scholarly activity along with appropriate service to the College University and the community.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

To provide instruction in areas of expertise from within the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences. Areas of expertise may include but are not limited to pharmacology pathophysiology or pharmacogenomics.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The role of faculty within the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences is to meet the teaching research and service needs for the professional Pharm.D. program as determined in conjunction with the Department Chair. Faculty within the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences will hold appropriate terminal degrees in pharmaceutical sciences or related disciplines as stated above and will have marked progression and leadership ability in teaching research and service noted at each academic level. Faculty rank and tenure are based upon faculty credentials.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential Job Functions (Teaching):

  1. Teach in areas of expertise utilizing a variety of innovative teaching methodologies.
  2. Development of the preparation of course goals and objectives for relevant courses including integrated therapeutics courses.
  3. Be designated as instructor of record for relevant courses.
  4. Prepare in consultation with faculty colleagues descriptions and revisions of teaching programs and curricula and course descriptions for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences catalog as coordinated by the Associate/Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs.
  5. Initial review and adjudication of student issues as they pertain to course related activities.

Essential Job Functions (Research):

  1. Research with subsequent publication in peer-reviewed journals in areas of expertise.
  2. Research with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals in areas of expertise to begin establishing themselves as an expert in their field of study (Associate Professor).
  3. Present scholarly activity at local national and international meetings.
  4. Work collaboratively with members of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences the Dean and members of other departments/colleges of the University to identify sources of extramural support for the research program.

Essential Job Functions (Service):

  1. Assist Department Chair with faculty development and mentoring of junior faculty within the department (Associate Professor).
  2. Act as an effective representative of the College of Pharmacy to professional and community groups (Assistant Professor) with a strong and consistent record of significant impact (Associate Professor).
  3. Serve on (Assistant) and chair (Associate) some College University and professional committees as deemed appropriate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITIES:

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  2. Excellent organization self initiation and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  3. Ability to maintain strict code of confidentiality.
  4. Ability to work in partnership with faculty administration and staff.
  5. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  6. Ability to present self in a highly confident and professional manner as a representative of the College of Pharmacy.
  7. Ability to address and/or resolve conflict.

  1. Usual office environment.

Consistent with the requirements for an academic appointment.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  1. A doctorate in a pharmaceutical science engineering or related fields) with expertise in biopharmaceutical development or pharmaceutical engineering is required.
  2. Extremely effective oral and written communication skills.
  3. Highly organized with self-discipline to work independently.
  4. Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  5. Competencies in management of resources; business and organizational skills; communication and team building.
