Position Summary:
We are a PK-G12 international school located on the North Shore of Vancouver on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish people specifically the swxw7mesh (Squamish) slilwta (Tsleil-Waututh) and xmkym (Musqueam) nations. We
serve a diverse community and are committed to Truth and Reconciliation as well as promoting intercultural understanding. We seek to do so through creating a more diverse equitable inclusive anti-racist school environment for students faculty and staff and families. We recognise that we are on a journey and that as a community and as individuals we have far to travel. We are however fully committed to this journey and recognise that it may be challenging and difficult.
Our Indigenous Education Coordinator leads and guides our work in this area. The Coordinator works with students faculty staff parents board members and school leaders. Their work focuses on promoting Indigenous ways of knowing First Peoples Principles of Learning decolonising the instructional curriculum creating a welcoming environment for Indigenous students while also developing mutually beneficial and authentic connections with local Indigenous communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Possess a strong understanding of the history and ongoing development of Indigenous education at Mulgrave School
- Continue to facilitate the implementation of the schools Indigenous education programs and policies in close collaboration with the schools Educational Leadership Team
- Work with curriculum leaders and faculty across the PK-12 continuum to build culturally responsive educational activities that support learning of Truth and Reconciliation
- Facilitate the implementation and development of Full School initiatives and programs - including the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation Day of Awareness for MMIWG2S National Indigenous Peoples History Month - to enhance students understanding of Indigenous peoples and cultures both historical and current
- Plan and facilitate professional learning for faculty and staff on issues relating to Indigenous ways of knowing and Truth and Reconciliation
- Continue to lead the Indigenous Education Working Group with a primary focus on the finalization and implementation of the 2026 Indigenous Education Strategic Plan
- Support LMT with PK - 12 FPP Curriculum Mapping through Toddle
- Collaborate with DEJB to continue to foster strong connections with the Squamish Nation
The ideal candidate will have:
- Familiarity with current and future direction of Indigenous education at Mulgrave School.
- Served as an active member of the 2024/2025 Indigenous Education Working Group.
- Deep understanding of how to collaboratively shape and lead a strategic plan that reflects Indigenous values priorities and educational goals.
- A demonstrated passion for PK-12 education and issues of Indigenous education
- Demonstrated success in implementing Indigenous Education programming at school or cultural organisation
- Understanding of current issues and discourse around Canadian Indigenous peoples including efforts to promote Truth and Reconciliation
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate challenging conversations with students faculty and families
- Genuine love of teamwork and collaboration
- Exceptional communication skills including being an excellent listener confident public speaker and clear writer
- Well-developed skills in group facilitation and familiarity with a range of facilitation methods and approaches
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to confidently use a variety of technological tools for effective communication and to enhance student learning
Required Qualifications:
- Be a current employee of Mulgrave School
- Be a Canadian resident and legally entitled to work in Canada or be prepared with the schools support to go through the process of obtaining an appropriate visa
- Be certified to teach in British Columbia or meet all of the requirements to obtain certification from the BC Ministry of Education
- Have at least 5 years of professional experience in schools or related educational organizations
