About the role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Work Health and Safety (WHS) professional to coordinate and support the delivery of safe person-centred services across Somerville. Reporting to the Manager Quality and Practice the WHS Coordinator will play a key role in implementing WHS systems leading risk management activities and promoting practical approaches to safety that support compliance and reflect the complexities of disability service environments.

This is a hands-on role with organisation-wide impact requiring the ability to translate WHS legislation and standards into real-world solutions that support frontline teams and uphold quality outcomes.

What youll be doing

As WHS Coordinator youll work closely with operational leaders to drive WHS initiatives conduct audits and investigations manage safety systems and provide expert advice across multiple service locations. Youll also support emergency planning incident response and safety training ensuring staff are engaged informed and equipped to work safely in diverse environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating WHS systems procedures and compliance activities
  • Providing practical WHS advice and support to leaders and staff
  • Supporting risk assessments incident investigations and audits
  • Leading emergency preparedness planning including PEEPs and BCPs
  • Delivering safety communications training and awareness initiatives
  • Monitoring WHS data and reporting on trends and areas for improvement
  • Collaborating with operational teams to ensure WHS strategies are practical and person-centred
  • Contributing to organisational quality and continuous improvement projects

What youll bring

To succeed in this role youll bring a strong understanding of WHS principles and experience applying them in complex service-based environments. Youll be confident navigating WHS legislation and able to implement practical risk-based solutions that support compliance service delivery and safe inclusive work practices.

Youll also need to demonstrate:

  • Experience coordinating WHS in a multi-site or regulated care environment
  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management
  • Experience with audits inspections and incident investigations
  • Ability to implement and improve WHS policies systems and training
  • Strong communication and engagement skills across all levels of staff
  • High-level organisation problem-solving and data reporting skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and WHS/incident management systems
  • A values-based person-centred approach to safety and service delivery

You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card Criminal History Check NDIS Worker Screening Clearance First Aid and CPR certificate COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations evidence of Australian work rights and an NT Drivers Licence.
