Job Description

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Group Leader Development and Compliance this role is responsible for assessing and processing development applications in line with Council policy and statutory obligations. The role also provides expert planning advice to the public Councillors and internal stakeholders promotes sustainable development and supports compliance with planning regulations. You will be instrumental in ensuring the built and natural environments of the Bellingen Shire are managed effectively and sensitively.

The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Planning or a related discipline or bring relevant experience in the field. Ideally you will be eligible for membership with the Planning Institute of Australia or have a plan in place to achieve this. Current experience in development assessment under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and associated regulations is essential. Familiarity with a range of related legislation and experience with ePlanning software will be highly regarded.

To succeed in the role you will need strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to provide high quality customer service. Success in this role will also require sound judgement initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will thrive in a collaborative environment and maintain a calm and professional approach under pressure. Experience in community consultation will be a plus.

Annual salary of $81855 to $93323 (plus super).
