Job Description

This position is contingent upon award.

The Pharmacist is responsible for on-site pharmaceutical support and healthcare services to the client and customer work force that is comprised of US Government personnel US nationals foreign nationals local/host country national employees and a small group of Iraq military personnel at an Iraqi military comply with required host nation and US Government regulations governing medication procurement storage distribution and use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assesses evaluates and manages medication therapies for patients across the age spectrum for various medical problems for outpatient and emergency patients. 
  • Maintains healthcare formulary formulary stock prescription records and is financially responsible for all legend and controlled medications. 
  • Reviews and updates departmental directives and supervising policies for medication procurement storage distribution and use within Balad to ensure regulatory compliance. 
  • Oversees and responds to monthly audit of medications per PWS requirements.   
  • Maintains regulatory required records for procurement storage distribution and use of all legend and controlled medications within Balad. 
  • Inspects medication stock and medication use outside of the Department of Pharmacy per departmental directives. 
  • Assists all practitioners with medication information and pharmacotherapeutic guidance. 
  • Reports all instances of regulatory non-compliance to the CMO. 
  • Oversees medication ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels while not exceeding budget limits. 
  • Oversees expired medication returns. Performs medication reconciliation upon entry and discharge from the acute care setting. 
  • Performs other duties as required in accordance with privileges granted by the Credentials Committee. 
  • Assumes other responsibilities and duties as assigned by CMO. 
  • Participates actively with quality assurance and process improvement as required. 
  • Provides active participation on multi-disciplinary hospital committees as assigned. 
  • Participates with administrative projects as delegated or as approved by Balad leadership.

Additional Duties: 

  • Compliance with International SOS policies and procedures. 

Direct line reports: 

  • The following positions are to be supervised directly by the incumbent; however this may be subject to change in line with changing business needs. 
  • Pharmacy Technician

Qualifications :

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Minimum 5 (five) years experience as a practicing pharmacist.  

Experience Preferred: 

  • Experience on a military/government site working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred. 
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred. 
  • Remote site experience. 

Education Required: 

  • Shall have and maintain a current license and registration to practice as pharmacist in any one of the 50 states the District of Columbia Puerto Rico Guam U.S. Virgin Islands or country of record that allows for the independent practice of clinical services. 
  • DEA License or equivalent. 
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharm). 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • Obtain medical clearance and maintain current immunizations. 
  • Must be able to relocate to Balad Iraq. 
  • A valid passport from country of record is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay in Balad. 
  • The incumbent may be required to perform job related tasks other than those specifically presented in this job description. This job description is subject to regular review. 


Additional Information :

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.
