Job Description

Elementary School Library Media Specialist Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Plan develop and administer the program of the library. 2. Administer the library budget. 3. Teach scheduled library classes and coordinate library instruction of students collaborating with faculty to integrate instruction with the classroom curriculum. This instruction will include the study of research methods online resources intellectual property and copyright issues and all aspects of information literacy. 4. Carry out all aspects of collection development and maintenance; evaluate and order new titles to meet the needs of curriculum and the community advise in cataloging and processing and administer weeding and inventory. 5. Meet regularly with district librarians to plan and coordinate district-wide library services.6. Supervise the library clerk and volunteers. 7. Provide reference assistance to students faculty and parents. 8. Coordinate and schedule use of the library and its facilities for meetings classes book fair author visits and other events. 9. Publicize the library its services and collection and promote the role of the library in the life and curriculum of the school. 10. Maintain school website in cooperation with the district IT dept.11. Facilitate integration of technology within the curriculum including taking a leadership role in promoting and demonstrating the use of new technologies and media with teachers and adults and providing coaching/co-teaching with classroom teachers as they use technology with their students. 12. Assist IT department with technology training and simple troubleshooting. 13. Teach keyboarding to students14. MLS degree and R.I. librarian certification. 2. RIDE All Grades Library Media Teacher Certification.3. Demonstrated ability using instructional technology tools to support curriculum. 4. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability working with a diverse faculty staff and student body. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of library techniques processes and reference sources.6. Demonstrated ability to plan and teach lessons encompassing all aspects of information literacy in the 21st century.7. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and demonstrated ability working with a diverse faculty staff and student body. In accordance with Rhode Islands Right to Read Act all educators must demonstrate awareness of and/or proficiency in the Science of Reading. Preferred candidates will have completed an approved Right to Read training program or possess current certification of proficiency or awareness.
