DescriptionThe Endoscopy Tech performs various direct patient care activities in the endoscopy unit under the supervision of a physician. May assist with medical procedures. Ensures that all equipment is functioning properly. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Sets up carts equipment and supplies required of specific procedures.
- Stocks all rooms with necessary equipment supplies and accessories.
- Coordinates the selection and use of proper patient chargeable.
- Appropriately charges for items used in patient care.
- Assists in batching patient charges daily and delivering batched charges to Data Processing.
- Organizes and delivers service/care in the proper sequence.
- Assists in providing patient education on Endoscopy in regards to monitoring the devices oxygen cannula and temperature indicator.
- Assists in transport and movement of the patient.
- Implements safety procedures for each patient based on population-specific needs and patient status.
- Collects specimens and transport to the lab in a timely manner as required.
- Displays sensitivity to the needs of patient and other customers with emotional as well as technical clinical support. Demonstrates good communication skills and empathy. Treats patients visitors family members co-workers and all who enter the facility in a courteous manner.
- Performs patient care and support activities in a manner that recognizes the importance of the patients time. Responds promptly to patients and co-workers requests/need in a timely manner.
- Able to evaluate and follow-up on his/her own services. Provides all necessary services to those patients and staff members with whom she/he works.
Quality
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize supplies in a cost effective manner and ensure that all chargeable items have a charge generated.
- Assists with ordering of stock supplies from Material Management.
- Assists in reconciliation of lost charges.
- Identifies and intervenes to reduce waste of costly supplies by other personnel.
- Appropriate use of Supply Omnicell system.
- Works carefully and precisely without creating unnecessary errors. Pays close attention to details.
- Displays good organization skills and utilizes time wisely.
- Does not spend an excessive amount of time on rework or accruing unnecessary over time.
- Assumes responsibility for patients clothing and personal property while in Endoscopy by securing items in accordance with established procedures.
- Identifies patient by checking armband ensures that safety rails are up during transport and that brakes are locked on stretchers and wheelchairs before moving the patient.
- Identifies and rectifies sources of potential accidents by maintaining cleanliness of the rooms proper disposal of garbage and hazardous waste materials.
- Consistently check light sources instruments and accessory equipment for proper functioning and notifies charge nurse when problem is found.
- Adheres to the Blood borne Pathogen regulations as established by OSHA.
- Checks weekly for outdated supplies in storage areas and rotates sterilizes and restocks according to accepted Endoscopy procedure.
- Properly cleans and disinfects the endoscopes according to Infection Control guidelines.
- Demonstrates an awareness of risk management issues governing the delivery of patient care.
- Utilizes time to accomplish work in an efficient manner.
- Employee shall conform to regulatory customer and organizational requirements.
- Operates equipment and performs job-related duties in a safe manner.
- Responds appropriately to fire safety and disaster situations. Utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the appropriate manner for optimal personal protection.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Assists nurses and physicians with Endoscopic procedures.
- Participates in ongoing Endoscopic teaching and updating of information equipment instrumentation and supplies.
- Works with other employees and departments to coordinates services.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to implement the protocol in the event of an internal disaster.
- Working knowledge of all sterilization protocol steam and gas autoclaves chemical disinfectants ultrasonic washer Steris Sterilizer instruments and products for patient care procedures sterilization and packaging.
- Cleans sterilizers and packages all endoscopic accessories per hospital protocol.
- Works independently in a safe and appropriate manner. Demonstrates both problem-solving and problem prevention skills. Treat patients and co-workers in an ethical manner. Puts the patients well-being before personal financial or procedural concerns.
- When requested adjusts personal schedule to meet department/unit needs.
Other Duties As Assigned
- Participates in continuing education by attending inservice and department conference as assigned.
- Recognizes responsibility as a hospital team member and keeps informed by reading notices and memos attending professional meetings and conferences as scheduled and maintaining membership in professional organizations as applicable.
- Observes and carries out policies and procedures regarding infection control practices.
- Utilizes Universal Precautions at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policy on the usage of Paid Time Off and Extended Illness Time.
- Reports to work on time and if necessary reports tardiness to appropriate person.
- Maintains a professional appearance according to job requirements at all times.
- Attended all required mandatory educational sessions.
- Adheres to infection control practices. Has completed required TB skin tests).
- Assumes personal responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
- Accepts additional work assignments as assigned by supervisor.
QualificationsHigh School or equivalent
Communication Computer and Customer Service Skills.
BLS Certification Required
