Job Description

JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Student Services - Middle SchoolPOSITION SUMMARYThe Coordinator of Student Services is responsible for the supervision of Student Services staff and will provide instructional support and coaching to special educators school counselors and mental health providers as they work to support students. The Coordinator of Student Services will work with school staff to support best practices in using data provide analysis of classroom and school-wide trends in instruction and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of individual needs of students. The Coordinator will serve as the LEA representative at Evaluation Team Meetings and IEP Team meetings 504 meetings and will work with the Building Administrator and Director of Student Services to ensure that all academic plans are being followed and meet the needs of students. The Coordinator of Student Services fosters collaboration among staff and recognizes the accomplishment of departmental members. Depth of knowledge regarding federal and state education law special education law processes and procedures exceptional leadership and communication skills are FUNCTIONS1. Collaborates with building leadership and/or department chairs regarding content curriculum development selection/evaluation of instructional materials and the design of common assessments2. Works with the building leadership team and the Director of Student Services to identify/organize professional development needs and activities for the school community in addition to participating in relevant professional development opportunities3. Supports school counselors with systems and processes relative to their work4. Supports special educators with designing and implementing rigorous responsive instructional strategies that meet the learning needs of students with disabilities5. Facilitates special educators understanding analyzing and data utilization to support equitable student access to learning by:6. Supporting a culture that uses student data regularly to improve instructional practices7. Building teacher capacity in effectively using formative data to inform instruction8. Cultivating a standards-based data and results-oriented culture9. Supports special educators in deepening their knowledge of specially designed instruction through: recommendations on best practices for supporting teachers in delivering grade-appropriate content while making appropriate accommodations based on information in the IEP and student teachers in reviewing curriculum to identify ways to provide access for students with teachers in the development of compliant with teachers and providing specific strategies for improved instructional delivery with research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve achievement for all teacher capacity in ensuring all students with disabilities have equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities that take i. individual student needs into consideration in both co-taught settings and separate class and participate in MTSS district and school team meetings that focus on both SEL and Academic needs of students who are not meeting in the recruitment of special education staff and supports substitutes in assuming absent staff with the Building Administrator in preparing for annual student course selection the development of special education staff schedules and caseload for and contributes to effective transitions for new students and their that IEPs meet all regulatory and district standards are written to reflect best practices reflect high-quality programming and are implemented with with the building leadership team and the Director of Student Services to develop and implement efficient and effective service delivery models that reflect best effectively with parents and collaboration between special education and general education as it pertains to teaching learning and as the LEA at student IEP meetings and Evaluation Team meetings in special with the Building Administrator and Director of Pupil Personnel Services to develop an annual budget for special education personnel and to the preparation and revision of school documents (Program of Studies Student Handbook etc.) in collaboration with the Building with building administrators and department chairs to assist in the preparation of state assessment administration schedule and coordination of accommodation needs for students with participates on the Building Leadership Team and/or School Improvement Team to address needs within the as a complimentary evaluator for student services other duties as assigned by the Building Administrator Director of College and Career Readiness or Director of Student ServicesPHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Hear and speak at levels to be able to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone 2. Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand 3. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper 4. See to read prepare documents and reports and to observe students 5. Able to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints 6. Sit or stand for extended periods of time in both indoor and outdoor environments and possible running in order to maintain a safe learning environment 7. Stamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events 8. Work at a desk conference table small student classroom table or in meetings in various configurations 9. Kneel bend at the waist and reach overhead above the shoulders and carrying pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Promotional Position: 190 days; The 180 day school year plus 10 additional days scheduled at the discretion of the Building Principal and Director of Student ServicesBase salary per the NEA Portsmouth contract plus $2500 AppointmentEVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the process and timelines established in the Support Professional Model of the Rhode Island Educator Evaluation System.
