Job Description Position: General Music Teacher and Instrumental Teacher Qualifications:Bachelors/Masters degree in music education Valid Massachusetts Elementary Teacher License (Music:Vocal/Instrumental/General)Evidence of successful teaching at the elementary levelEvidence of outstanding professional accomplishments and experiencesMeets the DESE requirements to be considered a Highly Qualified TeacherProficient on piano Choral/Vocal skills experience and Instrumental experienceExcellent classroom management skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsReports to: Building PrincipalEvaluated by: Building PrincipalPrimary Responsibility:Instructs classes in elementary classroom music so that students develop skills in singing listening and music fundamentals and participate with enthusiasm and students in an instrumental program in the school. General Responsibilities:Teach students to sing and play a variety of instruments in which to perform a varied repertoire of music alone and with othersInstruct students to read music written in standard a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standardsMaintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectivesMaintain open and effective communication with students parents staff and administration using expected professional standardsCoordinate with school administration in providing music programs for school productions and civic functionsIntegrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learningRecruit and instruct elementary school instrumental studentsSchedule and teach small group instrumental lessons to enrolled band membersPrepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences adapting music when necessaryHire and supervise adjunct instructors and directors as neededWork Environment: Be able to work in a close environmentBe able to work in moderately noisy environmentBe able to handle frequent interruptionsPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift 25 physically and emotionally capable of carrying-out responsibilities and duties in a busy computerized environment. This position requires hand/wrist movement as in writing or using a computer keyboard/mouse and moderate to frequent exertion in body movements such as reaching bending and requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents and to use a computer.
