Publishing Producer assigned to The National
Temporary 6-month backfill
This position is based in Toronto and requires you to be in office
The National CBCs flagship news program is looking for a creative journalist to play a pivotal role in shaping how the program reaches audiences.
As Publishing Producer you will be responsible for curating video distribution across multiple platforms ensuring accuracy brand consistency and maximizing the impact of our journalism.
Youre also an advocate for the audience tracking performance metrics and continually working to understand how and why they connect with our content.
The ideal candidate is a confident writer with an eye for design. You thrive in a highly collaborative team environment enjoy learning new things and adapt easily to change.
You also have a comprehensive understanding of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices and have bookmarked the CBC Language Guide.
Job responsibilities:
Write and vet editorially precise SEO-optimized video packaging
Research and build eye-catching thumbnail images
Work closely with writers and reporters on story framing
Curate landing pages and playlists
Publish and coordinate video rollouts
Track audience performance metrics and use data for optimization
Monitor the live-stream presentation across platforms
Respond and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment
Coach the team on emerging video trends and best practices
Perform additional production and vetting tasks when required
Relevant skills and experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in daily news
Knowledge of CBC systems and workflows including iNews Media Central and 9CMS.
Aptitude for photo and video editing software
Exceptional organizational and communication skills
A collaborative audience-first mindset is a must
Excellent journalistic skills. Understanding of CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices and legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-pressure breaking news environment.
University degree or equivalent
Cultural awareness and sensitivity
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends statutory holidays and unexpected overtime
