The National CBCs flagship news program is looking for a creative associate producer to join our talented publishing team and create world-class content that will appear on all of our platforms.
Were looking for someone who lives and breathes the news a critical thinker excellent communicator and team player someone tuned into what people are talking about in all spaces.

Youre a self-starter with experience creating memorable content for audiences on multiple platforms.
You understand and know how to engage new more diverse and younger audiences; how to tailor content to them; how to chase and land key newsmaker interviews; how to work with video in the field and with studio-based productions; and how to dig uncover new information and drive news stories forward.
You have a broad range of interests. You have a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective opinion and experience which is reflected in all your pitches and guest selection.
Finally you have full knowledge of the Journalistic Standards and Practices of CBC and that all your work is governed by these policies. And you know the importance of getting it right and maintaining the trust of our audience.
Key Tasks:
Pitch develop and create content that can run across platforms
Write research and/or edit written and video content in the style and voice of The National
Chase and organize the participation of interviewees creative contributors and other participants.
Conduct research to support long-term projects and participate in supporting breaking news.
Identify and develop content that reflects the diversity of experiences opinions and perspectives particularly those from equity-seeking groups.
As required performs the following tasks:
Produce content for broadcast digital or social platforms
Assign direct and coordinate the work of other personnel working on a project for which the Producer is responsible
Direct the editing of visual elements
Edit encode digitize and package material for digital platforms
Assist in maintaining a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience which is both feasible and appropriate
Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the program unit.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Requires a university degree or equivalent
Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Pitches story ideas
Demonstrated writing skills
Demonstrated ability to chase and book guests and synthesize information
Excellent grasp of news gathering
Strong news judgment under tight deadline conditions
Develops and maintains a wide number of relevant sources
Demonstrated ability with editing systems and locating visuals from a wide variety of sources
Strong news sense especially Canadian and International news and current affairs
Must be thoroughly familiar with and understand CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices
Ability to work flexible hours and overtime is required including occasionally weekends
Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
Must be comfortable and willing to train in a number of different job functions as determined by the Executive Producer
Capable of original and creative thought
Open to new ideas and approaches
Strong organizational skills
Innovative flexible and must be a self-starter
Ability to work for extended periods of time under the pressure of breaking and sometimes highly technical news and still maintain a cooperative relationship with colleagues
Must have the ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently
Must be able to solve problems independently and in group discussions
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
Must be a team player
