Job Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing leadership and leading the Signal & Communication team charged with the overall safe engineering construction maintenance inspection and repair of grade crossing and wayside signal and communication facilities & equipment for Genesee & Wyoming Operations. Ensure the safety of our employees and the public. Additionally provide support for international signal and communication activities as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop refine and enforce all policies procedures and practices that are necessary to insure the safe and reliable operation of all Wayside Interlocking and Grade Crossings Systems

Support and develop capital investment programs for Signal & Communications across North America

Develop safety procedures and policies directly related to Signal & Communication

Ensure compliance with Federal and State Government regulations as well as internal Standards and Policies on all Genesee & Wyoming Properties

Develop and implement action plans to correct any and all defects of compliance deficiencies

Develop and maintain proper training procedures for new Signal & Communications employees

Actively monitor promote and improve Employee Signal and Grade Crossing safety

Assist Railroad General Managers and staff with Maintenance & Capital budget controls

Perform periodic due diligence of future acquisitions.

Manage Railroad Signal & Communication engineering construction and maintenance contracts and projects as required

Support and facilitate 130 funding activities across North America as requested

Frequent field travel required 50 75% of work time

Other projects and duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 15 years field and management experience in railroad wayside communications interlocking and grade crossing signal activities (maintenance and construction).

Thorough working knowledge of C.F.R. 49 part 233- 236

Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite

Experienced in the areas of Signal engineering construction and maintenance

Ability to accurately express engineering terminology in written and oral communication

Strong planning and organizational skills

Ability to communicate effectively with regions and senior management teams employees customers railroads regulatory agency officials and the general public

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:

Required: Highs school diploma

Preferred: Bachelors degree or equivalent along with engineering and project management
