JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will join TWUs vibrant music faculty in preparing future music educators and advancing graduate education in music. The Division of Music has an enrollment of approximately 275 music majors. Bachelors degrees are offered in music education music therapy musical theatre performance and liberal arts. Additionally masters degrees are offered in music education music therapy performance and instrumental piano or vocal pedagogy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will:

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education
  2. Direct masters theses and professional papers in music education and serve on other graduate student committees
  3. Contribute to undergraduate and graduate curriculum development and assessment in alignment with NASM and Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards
  4. Supervise music education student teachers in coordination with TWUs College of Professional Education
  5. Maintain an active research agenda in music education
  6. Actively participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives
  7. Provide service to the division college university and profession
  8. Mentor undergraduate and graduate music education students
  9. Teach other courses in support of the music curriculum as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold an earned doctorate in Music Education
  2. Valid teaching certification and minimum of 3 years successful K-12 music teaching experience in public schools with demonstrated excellence in choral music education
  3. Evidence of successful teaching at the college/university level
  4. Strong record of scholarly activity and potential for continued research productivity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience teaching in Texas public schools and familiarity with TEA requirements
  2. Evidence of successful grant writing and/or external funding acquisition
  3. Expertise in teaching in different modalities (i.e. face-to-face hybrid online synchronous asynchronous etc.)
  4. Experience with recruitment and retention of varied student populations
  5. Active participation in professional music education organizations
  6. Record of collaborative work with public schools and community organizations
