Job Description

LOWELL MASSACHUSETTS

COORDINATOR OF K-12 MATHEMATICS

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Certification valid for service teaching Mathematics in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  3. Certification valid for service (or eligible to apply for certification) as a supervisor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  4. Demonstrated ability to coordinate successfully all aspects of Mathematics curriculum and instruction.
  5. A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  6. An understanding of performance standards and effective teaching practices which support the Mathematics Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics and research their implementation and major educational trends the design implementation and evaluation of math programs.
  8. Consulting skills necessary for communicating effectively with members of the wider school community including those from varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  9. Working knowledge of various mathematics assessment instruments.
  10. Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
  11. Excellent written communication skills.
  12. Demonstrated computer proficiency.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate the development implementation evaluation and revision of approved Mathematics curriculum to affect an optimum learning climate.
  2. Assist building administrators in their development implementation supervision evaluation and upgrading of all aspects of Mathematics instruction and curriculum for all educational programs at the school in accordance with the school/districts policies and procedures.
  3. Assist in the 9n9ing professional development of effective teaching strategies and practices that support the Mathematics Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and performance standards.
  4. Organize and lead committees/study groups in the on-going effort to upgrade Mathematics curriculum.
  5. Work with building administrators and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating horizontal and vertical continuity of Mathematics instructional program throughout the district.
  6. Work with district and school staff to meet the needs of a diverse population of learners and to coordinate the development of the district success plans and individual student success plans.
  7. Observe teachers in their classrooms and offer insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation.
  8. Direct organize manage and assess school and district mathematics programs and meet with school-based personnel to interpret and implement the districts Mathematics curriculum.
  9. Assume responsibility for reviewing and evaluating results of districtwide testing programs and for other evaluative measures of Mathematics used in the schools.
  10. Assist classroom and school-based Mathematics curriculum support personnel in the development of instructional strategies to challenge all students.
  11. Study evaluate and as appropriate recommend adoption of new Mathematics instructional materials methods and programs and assist in the budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs as related to instructional supplies equipment and materials.
  12. Provide models to facilitate lessons in Mathematics curriculum and encourage the development publication and use of new Mathematics instructional materials by the professional staff.
  13. Assume a leadership role in developing curriculum for any Mathematics course newly mandated by the legislature or the School Committee.
  14. Demonstrate the use of a variety of evaluation tools including required assessment instruments.
  15. Serve as a resource in the area of mathematics education for teachers administrators and the community.
  16. Keep abreast of research and trends in mathematics instruction and curriculum and provide assistance in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the mathematics program.
  17. Coordinate university-school partnerships with other educational agencies to promote the advancement. of mathematics.
  18. Participate in the development implementation and evaluation of district and school improvement plans and initiatives.
  19. Assist in the development and implementation of state federal and private grant applications.
  20. Perform other Mathematics instructional and curriculum duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant superintendent for curriculum and Instruction.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Instruction

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As Per LSAA Contract
