Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) was set up to promote molecular biology across Europe and to create a centre of excellence for training Europes leading young molecular biologists. It is a non-profit intergovernmental organisation funded by 28 member states with funding secured from external funding bodies.

Your role

You will be a crucial resource to support operating and developing the EMBL Compliance Office. Compliance Office mission is to support management to ensure that activities regulations policies and procedures capture and reflect a complete and accurate view of the legal requirements contractual obligations and the Laboratorys internal standards. Under the supervision of EMBLs Compliance Manager You will provide advisory to EMBLs administrative departments and scientific units at all EMBL sites.

You have

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Legal or Compliance functions in a law firm or public/private sector organization.
  • Law degree.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in legal research.
  • Fluent written and spoken English language skills (level C) including basic Legal English.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills ability to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work independently attention to details and proactive approach in problem solving.

You may also have

  • Relevant certification for compliance professionals
  • Post-graduate studies in relevant areas
  • Familiarity with regulatory environmental in the life sciences or academic research
  • Prior intergovernmental organization experience
  • Knowledge of German Spanish Italian or French
  • Interest in research life sciences bioethics

We expect that you engage with various internal stakeholders and integrate well with EMBL-world therefore we expect that you work from EMBL headquarters in Heidelberg Germany at least three days a week subject to further arrangements with the supervisor. We will expect that you are ready to travel up to 2 times a year to other EMBL sites.

Contract length:3 years (renewable to a maximum of 9 years)

Salary: Grade 5 or 6 depending on qualification and experience; monthly salary from 3.92504 EUR after tax excluding personal pension and insurance contributions. Plus financial allowances based on family circumstances.
