JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Elementary iSTEM Teacher (210 Days)

Location: Specific School Site

Reports to: Building Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary:

The Elementary iSTEM Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing a dynamic and interactive Science and STEM CS program that empowers students to explore discover and innovate. The Elementary iSTEM Teacher will design develop and implement interdisciplinary lessons that enhance instruction for all students. The STEM program aims to prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world by providing a solid foundation in scientific concepts and engineering practices and instilling a deep appreciation for the natural world and its wonders.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement Science and STEM CS curricula aligned with state and national standards utilizing best practices in instruction and assessment;
  • Design model and evaluate Science and STEM CS lessons and resources that employ various instructional technologies and techniques;
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify opportunities for integrating Science and STEM CS concepts and skills into their instruction;
  • Provide push-in support to teachers at the discretion of the building administrator;
  • Support teachers in their involvement empowerment responsibility and innovation in school activities related to Science and STEM CS;
  • Analyze student data to identify trends and areas of need and adjust instruction and curriculum accordingly;
  • Assist in the implementation refinement and evaluation of the District-provided science curriculum;
  • Attend PLC meetings and Department planning meetings as determined by building administrators and content coordinator;
  • Design and facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions for teachers;
  • Inventory track refurbish and maintain all Science and STEM CS materials and equipment;
  • Participate in short- and long-term goal setting to support the Divisions Strategic Plan and planning process;
  • Attend Science and STEM CS education conferences workshops and other professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with current trends and research and share with staff; and
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by building administrators.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

Possess strong knowledge of Science and STEM CS concepts; strong knowledge of state and national science standards as well as instructional best practices; strong ability to model Science and STEM CS for other teachers and students; commitment to student-centered hands-on learning and inquiry-based instruction; ability to employ various instructional technologies tools and techniques that promote student learning creativity and collaboration in Science and STEM CS excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to compose a variety of documents and facilitate group discussions; strong technology skills for computers and other equipment used in Science and STEM CS programs; ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions; knowledge and experience using a variety of assessment tools and analyzing student data; ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with data utilizing defined but different processes; strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to schedule activities meetings and events; ability to design and implement professional development workshops and training sessions.

Education and/or Experience:

A valid Virginia teaching license and at least three years of teaching experience are required.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:

Duties performed typically in school settings include classroom gym cafeteria auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking standing light lifting up to 40 pounds and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction for special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.

Evaluation:

The Elementary iSTEM Teacher is evaluated by the principal.

This position may involve a range of responsibilities that may evolve and change based on the organizations needs. The successful candidate will need to be adaptable and open to learning new skills as needed.
