JOB SUMMARY

Provides forensic interview services to assist child victims of crime and witnesses in a neutral fact-finding manner to fulfill and comply with interviewing guidelines state statute and national accreditation requirements. Provides training consultation and technical assistance to professionals. Provides and participates in peer review. Provides courtroom testimony.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in social work psychology counseling criminal justice or other closely related field plus two (2) years of related work experience in any of the following: investigations crime victim advocacy or youth counseling.

Due to the nature of this position the successful applicant must successfully pass an initial criminal background check as well as every two years thereafter and continuously meet the requirements of the Bureau of Criminal Information (BCI).

Due to the nature of this position the applicant:

  • Must have and be able to maintain a valid Utah drivers license
  • Must have the ability to respond after hours and weekends for urgent cases
  • May be required to travel to provide training and technical assistance to Utah CJC programs on occasio

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts forensic interviews of children witnesses and vulnerable adults according in compliance with interview guidelines state statute and national accreditation standards.
  • Gathers background information from caregivers law enforcement and child protective services to plan effective forensic interview services for a child victim or witness. Provides debriefing after interviews with caregivers law enforcement and child protective services.
  • Facilitates team work collaboration for the investigation and prosecution of child abuse crimes.
  • Responds to urgent cases in evenings and weekend.
  • Serves as forensic interview specialist and participates in case review meetings with allied professionals for criminal prosecution and protective action in child abuse cases.
  • Provides courtroom testimony including as an expert on forensic interview services conducted or forensic interviewing techniques.
  • Receives peer review on work performed at least quarterly as approved by supervisor.
  • Maintains skills and knowledge of national best practice standards by attending an annual national child abuse conference and through webinars and reading CALiO relevant articles as approved by supervisor.
  • Maintains case documentation and tracks services provided to demonstrate efficacy of the position required by state funding source.
  • Provides positive and courteous customer service approach to serving clients and MDT members.
  • Provides input on forensic interview training curriculum updates.

Investigation and criminal justice processes for victims of crime

Victim trauma reactions and dynamics of child abuse cases

Social service systems including protective service programs and procedures
Databases and computer software and programs related to specific job duties

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed in a typical office environment child abuse investigation settings and court settings. CJC staff work regularly with clients in crisis situations and who have experienced significant trauma and abuse.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
Work hours are traditional office hours (8:00 5:00) but may occasionally extend outside of those hours to accommodate victims urgent child abuse investigations and to participate in court trials and education activities. Services are provided at multiple locations (Downtown & West Jordan).
May be requested to respond to calls after hours or weekends for urgent child abuse cases.
