Job Description

ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

POSITION

Under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources the primary objective of the Employment Coordinator(s) is to support the employment and education needs of the members of Williams Lake First Nation. The objective of this role is to help close the employment gaps with a stronger focus on higher-quality training to support WLFN members long-term career success. The Employment Coordinator establishes effective working relationships with the WLFN community local employers funding agencies and other external contacts.


Employment Type

Part-Time Temporary (21 hours per week until May 2026).

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.


Education Required

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Career Development Communications Business Management Public or Community Relations or a related field.

Experience Required

  • Two (2) years minimum related experience in employment coaching or program coordination.
  • A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identifies employment and training needs within the community and takes action to meet these needs through workshops referrals and other solutions.
  2. Assess existing barriers that prevent community members from participating in employment or training opportunities (education level language skills training transportation drivers license daycare).
  3. Develops an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives aligned with the strategic direction including program evaluation and follows Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre (CCATEC) guidelines when applicable.
  4. Answer each employment inquiry in a friendly professional and knowledgeable manner.
  5. Organize and facilitate workshops and one-on-one counselling covering topics such as resume and cover letter writing interviewing for success uncovering the hidden job market searching for jobs approaching employers etc.
  6. Developing schedules and coordinating guest speakers from education institutions elders and community leaders.
  7. Interview clients and assess job readiness and suitability.
  8. Review documentation submitted by applicants for their program of a course outline cost of books and tuition and living support and provides a summary for clients to be accepted into training with CCATEC.
  9. Develop engage and support a partnership with various external partners employment services school districts and education institutions and conduct monthly or bi-weekly site visits to understand WLFN partners business and to identify employment opportunities and to market employment services current candidates and future hires. Work with the external partners to develop training and apprenticeship programs.
  10. Liaise and build strong relationship with WLFN Corporations such as the Borland Creek Logging (BCL) Sugar Cane Development Corporation (SCDC) Sugar Cane Archaeology (SCA) Unity Sugar Cane Cannabis (SCC) Sugar Cane Petroleum Products (SCPP) Coyote Rock Estates Coyote Rock Golf Course.
  11. Maintain master database of community members and highlight their skills knowledge career interests and their current employment status. Prepare monthly and annual reports showing employment statistics at the Williams Lake First Nation community.
  12. Liaises with other employment service providers in affiliated organizations.
  13. Provide outreach support to the community with career fairs connecting with Schools Friendship Centers and CCATEC.
  14. Collaborate with the Social Development team research employment or training opportunities to the Social Assistance (SA) clients.
  15. Take lead on WLFNs Trades & Training program and inform the committee about new applications and create awareness about the program in the community.
  16. Develop funding proposals to increase current funding to support diverse projects and programs that address community needs.
  17. Host and facilitate ongoing virtual or in-person member gatherings to share information create best practices and celebrate successes of WLFN members.
  18. Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to develop a communication strategy for public awareness of programs and events.
  19. Supports the mission vision and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  20. Contributes to the WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
