Under very limited supervision theAir Permit Section Managermanages a permitting section of the Air Permitting Division to ensure required permits for the regulated community in SC are issued in accordance with state and federal requirements. Serve as a technical expert and assists in providing technical assistance to interested parties and in the administration of air quality permitting activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise technical staff through established management procedures.
  • Oversee select Air Permitting Division Administration activities.
  • Provide formal and informal technical management direction and guidance to a section of technical staff to ensure permits are issued in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Serve as technical expert and provide technical and professional advice to staff regulated community government officials the public and other interested parties regarding air quality programs in particular air permitting.
  • Prepare and/or review documents prepared by staff to ensure appropriate permits are issued in accordance with state and federal air quality and other environmental requirements.
  • Represent the Minerals and Textiles Permitting Section Division of Air Permitting Bureau of Air Quality at meetings conferences seminars etc. as technical expert in matters related to air quality in particular air permitting.
  • Develop or supervise development of policies procedures regulations and guidance to ensure the air quality program is current with the most recent state and federal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.



Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelors degree and relevant program experience

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Position requires the ability to manage technical staff and provide technical advice/leadership on air regulatory activities.
  • Use of personal computer and computer systems essential.
  • Proficient with using ePermitting.
  • Some travel may be required which would necessitate operation of a state vehicle.
  • Must possess a valid SC drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A masters degree in the natural or physical sciences public health or related technical field and five (5) years of environmental experience.
  • A bachelors degree in the natural or physical sciences public health or related technical field and six (6) years of environmental experience.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of state and federal air laws and regulations.
  • Must have detailed technical knowledge of air permitting ability to manage technical staff organize permitting activities communicate effectively with all levels of government and industry and the general public.
