Job Description
REPORTS TO:SOCSD Chief of Police
SUMMARY: The School Safety Officer is responsible for working along with other education personnel and students to provide a safe and secure school environment. The work involves enforcing district and individual school regulations polices and procedures. Officers receive general instructions from the School Principal/Director regarding adherence to administrative polices and regulations. Officers are directly responsible for maintaining safety and security in the assigned school.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be familiar with the student and employee handbooks.
- Assist School Resource Officers in patrol of school property to enhance safety and security.
- Monitor hallways and ensures a safe and orderly school.
- Assist administration in removing disrupting students from classroom when necessary after administrations initial attempt.
- Maintain radio contact with other School Safety Officers and School Resource Officers.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Communicate with students and help maintain a calm and non-violent atmosphere.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent
- Three years experience related to above described duties in the law enforcement security or military areas.
- Complete a 40-hour School Safety Officer Basic Course as approved by the Mississippi Department of Education.
- Consent to a rigorous background investigation.
