Thank you for your interest in the BPT1 position at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) for 2026.
Duration of appointment: 2rd February 2026 31st January 2027 (potential for longer term contracts)
Important Information
SVHM has entered into the BPT1 Match process and these positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process conducted by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV).Therules for BPT1 eligibility and matching to all the hospitals in Victoria are governed by PMCV in conjunction with the Victorian Government funding body Department of Health.
To be eligible for an BPT1 position in Victoria you must have completed PGY1(Internship) or worked as a medical professional for 1 year and have current general medical registration in Australian by commencement of the 2026 clinical year. Refer to PMCV guidelines and website for full details. PMCV Match information
The Referee Assessment process is managed via the PMCV website.
Candidates are required to register with PMCV for the BPT1 Match process.
About the Role
SVHM has an outstanding reputation as a leading health service for Basic Physician Training (BPT). As a BPT you will have exposure to a wide range of general and specialty medicine areas along with solid mentorship and structured educational support including bespoke tutorials and rotations may include General Medicine Haematology Endocrinology Neurology Rheumatology Intensive Care and Geriatric Medicine.
SVHM provides a highly supported environment for trainees undertaking the new curriculum of RACP Basic Physician Training (BPT) program. The hospital is accredited as a level 3 hospital by the RACP and has a very structured and comprehensive training program providing individual support for all trainees. SVHM has an outstanding reputation over many years for success in the RACP examinations. Trainees are supported in their roles by RCAP accredited supervisors and mentors.
You will:
Provide effective supervised day to day clinical management of both ambulatory and admitted patients
Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning
Participate in continuous quality improvement including collection of data for audit purposes
Identify and understand the investigations relevant to a patients presenting problem using investigation results appropriately to guide patient management
Please note that the BPT1 roster may include rotations outside our Fitzroy campus to one of our external sites or secondment hospitals. These may include rotations at St Georges Kew Werribee Mercy and Warrnambool Hospitals.
Classifications for this position will range from HM12 - HM18 ($90607 - $149885 pro rata per annum) salary sacrifice and excluding super
Requirements
MBBS or equivalent
General AHPRA Registration
National Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) or willing to obtain
