DescriptionThe Church History Department announces an opening for an Associate Historian with an emphasis on public history. The Associate Historian will work on collaborative teams to produce multimedia content about the history of Latter-day Saints intended for audiences in the general public.
This position will be based at the Church History Library.
Responsibilities- Conducting research accurately and within professional standards under the supervision of project management.
- Contributing to the creation of engaging and accurate historical content in audio and video formats
- Writing articles and other content for digital and/or print publications.
- Working on multiple projects simultaneously and serving on internal committees and working groups.
- Meeting deadlines and performing all assigned tasks according to professional and Church History Department standards.
- Consulting with management and editorial teams on project management questions.
- Contributing to a collegial and professional atmosphere that incorporates the highest standards of behavior and cooperation promoting teamwork and group purposes.
QualificationsRequired:
- Masters degree in history religious studies or related discipline and three or more years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and creating historical content for public audiences through creative nonfiction and/or in audio and video formats.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to work in an office environment that requires personal initiative and collaborative competence.
- Understanding of and commitment to working in a public history setting.
- Professional and personal integrity required to maintain the trust and confidence of professional colleagues and department leadership.
Preferred:
- Fluency in Spanish Portuguese or French.
