Newcomer Program

School Year 2025-2026

Eastern Montgomery High School

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for an English as a Second Language (ESL) Newcomer Program teaching position that is available at Eastern Montgomery High School for theschool year.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The ESL Teacher is required to plan and implement instruction for high school newcomer students who have limited skills with the English language; is responsible for developing the English skills that enable students to be successful in the regular classroom; works with the classroom teachers and guidance counselors of students to aid them in the proficiency of the English language. The ESL Teacher must be certified for the administration of the WIDA screener and the ACCESS 2.0 Assessment. In addition to instructing a Newcomer ESL course the teacher will also instruct an English 9 or Math course and must also hold a content endorsement in English Language Arts or Math 9-12.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teachers License with appropriate endorsement to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) and content area in math or English
  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans and curriculum materials
  • Possess ability to effectively assess student learning and use results to plan and implement appropriate instruction
  • Integrate technology into classroom instruction to enhance learning
  • Utilize Google Drive for instructional purposes collaboration and managing coursework
  • Create and maintain an inclusive supportive learning environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of all students
  • Communicate effectively with strong written verbal presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with parents and families
  • Collaborate with other teachers and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Demonstrate dependability punctuality and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a masters degree in Education and/or the specific subject area

FLSA Status: Exempt

SALARY: $52832.35 - $85613.64 annually; with benefits; commensurate with experience
