Job Description:
Position Summary:
At The Salvation Army Mountberry Adult Day Service the Recreation therapy assistant is accountable to the Program Services Manager to provide excellent care to clients. Primary role includes supporting participation in recreational and therapeutic activities.
The Recreation therapy assistant is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Armys core values ensure client safety and demonstrate customer service excellence while assisting with planning implementation and evaluation of programs and services provided to the clients.
This is a contract position beginning June 23 2025 and ending August 29 2025. The work week is Monday to Friday 7 hours per day with a one-half hour paid lunch break.
Hours of work are from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm but may vary to meet program requirements.
Shifts may be scheduled at either program location.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
General Strategy:
- Contributes to and follows a plan of care to meet clients assessed needs.
- Is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of supports delivered.
- Follows all corporate policies and procedures.
- Seeks direction from the Program Services Manager or designate when client need exceeds experience or scope of practice.
- Observes reports records client conditions and follows care plans.
- Assists in maintaining an environment appropriate to meet clients individualized needs.
Essential Duties:
1. Nutrition
- provides a safe and pleasant dining experience.
- assists full-time program staff in plating and distributing meals to clients based on dietary requirements set in care plan.
2. Program Activities
- May conduct and assist with planned programs in response to individual and group needs and interests.
- Assist with the preparation of the programs physical environment and maintenance of the activity area.
- Contribute to the development coordination of annual strategic long-range programs and fundraising initiatives.
- Complete and submit incident reports.
- Leadership:
- Promotes positive work environment and teamwork by following the Mountberry Adult Day Services policies and procedures.
- Puts clients needs and safety first.
- Perform other duties as required.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Ensures appropriate utilization of all supplies and equipment.
- Utilizes assigned equipment and supplies appropriately as per policies and procedures.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Montessori for Dementia Care certificate would be an asset.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
- Be a Canadian citizen a permanent resident of Canada or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

- Demonstrate leadership skills and strong oral and written communication skills.

- Communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner.
- A good listener with a genuine concern for the client/participant. Be able to offer sound advice that can meet the client/participants expectations.
- Participate in mandatory orientation training departmental staff meetings on-going professional development and training.
- Represent the organization in a positive professional and engaging manner.
- Work in compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
- Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License or reliable transportation is required.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
