The Water Group is currently seeking to appoint a Director Infrastructure Projects in a full-time capacity to 12 June 2026 with possibility of extension depending on project funding.

The Water Group leads the NSW Government in providing confidence to communities and stakeholders with the transparent stewardship of water resources provision of services and reforms that support sustainable and healthy environments economies and societies across NSW.

About You

The Director Infrastructure Projects provides leadership in the planning and delivery of water infrastructure projects supporting sustainable water management to enhance the NSW economy environment and communities. The role provides operational leadership in the development and implementation of sound evidence-based projects.

Key challenges of the role include:

  • Providing expert advice on complex and politically sensitive issues that is contextually appropriate and informative.
  • Managing the expectations of a wide range of community government and industry stakeholders where there are conflicting priorities and expectations and resolving contentious issues within tight timeframes.
  • Leading change to improve and streamline service delivery for water management programs including human resource management physical resources risk management and governance and reporting.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel regionally throughout NSW and have an appropriate car licence.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of infrastructure program and project management and the current challenges and opportunities.
  • Proven understanding and leadership in work health and safety and environmental management as it relates to infrastructure projects.
  • Proven executive level skills in leadership innovation and complex project development and delivery.
  • Proven experience in managing large and complex capital works programs and projects in the water infrastructure sector.
  • Proven experience in development of government funded infrastructure including Business case and Environmental Approval requirements in the water infrastructure sector.
  • A good understanding of government policies and processes as they relate to infrastructure development and delivery in the water infrastructure sector.
  • A good understanding of the engineering consulting and construction contracting markets.
