Job Description

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the maintenance repair and installation of heating ventilation air conditioning and refrigeration systems across the university campus. This role ensures all systems operate efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards to maintain a comfortable and safe environment for students faculty and staff.


Responsibilities

  • Install maintain and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems in academic buildings residence halls laboratories dining areas and administrative facilities.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment including air handlers boilers chillers cooling towers and ductwork.
  • Diagnose HVAC/R issues and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work system performance and equipment inventory.
  • Respond promptly to service requests and emergency calls related to heating cooling or air quality issues.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes standards and safety regulations.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating HVAC-related renovation and construction projects.
  • Collaborate with contractors engineers and other university departments as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and safe; adhere to university policies and OSHA regulations.


Education

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in HVAC preferred.
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in HVAC installation and maintenance preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
  • Valid HVAC certification (EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required).
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
